Re: Kitchen Appliances

[ Edited ]

I think white is for the most part dated.  Tell your husband that the written and documented law states that whoever spends the most time cooking and cleaning in the kitchen selects the appliances.  By default.  That's the way it it.  So squeaking and whining from the one who does not do most of the cooking and cleaning.

We had stainless in our house and now have white in our rental.   I much prefer stainless.   No comparision IMO.

I also agree with those who say the person who does most of the shopping, chopping, mixing, cooking should make these decisions.

And FWIW, I'll bet 50% of the kitchens in the US are now grey and white.   How about not doing what everyone has been doing for the last 8-10 years and have a kitchen that doesn't look like every new or remodeled kitchen.

I like white appliances, but when we put in a summer kitchen we went with SS and I love it. We put in a big SS farm sink, it's something to behold.LOL

If you do a lot of cooking and open and close your fridge and diswasher a lot then you had better love cleaning and polishing your SS appliances. SS shows every greasy fingerprint and water drip the minute you touch it. I would not get SS again.

@grandma2pkmh , @hovis , the new slate is very attractive.  I just bought a new black fridge and the new finish keeps fingerprints to a minimum.

Just remember this.  If you choose a color that is not standard stock, you may run into an issue when replacement time comes.  Appliances don’t last like they used to.  I bought a fridge before our old one died as there was a wait list of five weeks.  Who can live for five weeks without a fridge?

I would not have white appliances is an all white kitchen.  The slate sounds lovely.

I seriously long for white, but my vintage mid-century kitchen honestly can’t accommodate it, and my cabinets and tile are still literally like new, and we love them, even though the creamy beige-y color would definitely not welcome the white I’d love.

I have been waiting for 3 years or more for the arrival of “SUNSET BRONZE”, which would be perfect, but alas, it seems to have been hinted at by at least one manufacturer but never wound up in full production or distribution.

Short of a full gut, which neither of us want, I’m stuck in almond limbo.

At least my dishwasher really SHOULD be replaced right now, but until I come across something I have’t seen yet, I’m still washing my dishes in the sink and popping them into the dishwasher to be “finished”.

@hovis   Have you looked at the new "Slate" appliances?  My DD did her new kitchen in white and gray and the Slate looks awesome and no fingerprints.

@grandma2pkmh is correct. I would have gotten slate if they had a refrigerator with a freezer on the bottom that fit our space. Fingerprints don't show and the color would be beautiful with your countertops.

The Stainless steel frig we bought only has ss on the front, the sides are grey.  We use

Weiman Stainless Steel Wipes, 30ct - Walmart.com

Weiman ss wipes and cleaning is a breeze!

I have a "U" shaped kitchen.  All white cabinets, countertops white with a grey vein very sparsely running through.  My refrigerator is on the left hand wall and it is a french door, freezer on the bottom in white.  My dishwasher and sink are on the right hand side, sink is stainless and dishwasher has controls hidden and it is white with a stainless steel handle.  My microwave and oven are on the back center wall.  I chose a stainless steel with black glass slide in oven, the glass top extends over the counter top so it is clean and even with the countertop against the back wall with a stainless steel and black glass microwave oven above it.

I chose to do it this way because I wanted the refrigerator and the dishwasher to blend into the cabinets and make them disappear.  It's a trick to the eye.  I chose to make the oven more of a focal point because it looks like a piece of art.  I chose a Samsung slide in oven.

Naturally, it's, always, a personal choice but I prefer white for appliances and bathroom fixtures, for me, it is a classic look and does not "date" your kitchen as current popular looks do.  Everyone remembers Harvest Gold appliances as well as Avocado Green.  As i said it is a personal choice.

Here is a picture of the oven, it comes in electric or gas:

The new gray stainless is prone to peeling, so a long a you replace appliances regularly you are fine.

White is making a comeback and the newest version is pearl.

I have seen more copper appliances hitting the market, I am swooning over them.  Our appliances are almost 7 years old so we are on borrowed time.  There have also been a few bronze items in home shows (!!!!!!!!)

We have SS appliances but not true SS commercial appliances like SubZero or Viking but the stainless steel ****** GE makes.  (came with the house.)

Our kitchen is ivory, cabinets are cream with hand finished glaze.  I think the copper would be beautiful, white or pearl is not an option for me.
