The cold has so much of the country. I guess the West Coast is the only area that is enjoying some warm weather. We broke a record this AM in Pgh -9. So ready to get this over with. We had snow over the weekend then turning to ice. Now our snow is coated with ice. My poor dog will not even go out in the yard because she does not like the ice. It has been taxing getting her to go to the bathroom.

But as a disclaimer and in the interest of state pride:

Love this. My dear friend and husband retired from teaching and accepted new jobs in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. Her grown daughter from Missouri just joined her. Her son and wife are moving from Alabama to join them. Another friend and her husband just accepted jobs in Texas. I love the state pride Texans have.

Suzeecat, isn't it horribly cold though? Right now it's only 12 on my outside thermostat, and in the car after groceries, it registered 7 on the car thermostat. I think we'll all be so happy for warmth and more and longer sun this year. I'm in majorly bad need of it. Just said that in the car today.

It's up to 3 in Buffalo now...from a low of minus seven last night!

The sun is shining brightly too.

My car windshield cracked from the cold a little while ago.

We welcome them to Texas! Having been born here, and growing up in various other US states, I was always amazed at the state pride here and couldn't wait to get back! There is also healthy competition! The weather the past three days has not been our usual, but the sun is out now and stuff is melting away!

This morning on the news, they were talking about cold quakes. And I think I experienced one at work yesterday. We were having a meeting in conference room on the top floor of our building and there was a big "crack" sound and I swear the room even swayed a little. It was more than a little unsettling. And then this morning, they said that in MA, there have been 1000 reports of cold quakes so far. Something about the outside of a building being so much colder than the inside for an extended period of time; buildings contract and expand causing a "cracking" sound and sometimes there is some shifting.

I've had that happen. It was a summer morning I'd forgotten to adjust the AC before I went to bed, so it got pretty chilly inside. The window guy said it can happen when the temperature outside is too different from the temperature inside. The sound was EXACTLY as you described.
