Did you put a fence up or was it that way when you got the house?

No fences allowed here. Ironically , I live in a gated community - however gates are all there is - no walls or fences to keep anyone out - just the gates across the road. My DH & I call them the fake gates.
I think fences are a kind of regional thing - some places like California almost all the homes have them and other areas no one has them.Where we lived in Pitts. only one person in our neighborhood had a fence and he was a policeman with a K9 police dog. My brother always had a fence in his yard - but he had 12 kids.

My house was 15 years old when I bought it. It had cement block fencing on back and one side. There was a nice wood fence on the other side which the neighbor replaced with white vinyl a couple years ago. The ugly cement block fences are very popular here. You never see chain link in NM.

according to our covenants that were made many years ago, no fences are allowed (except if you have a pool, and then it is required around the pool.) it is one of the reasons why we chose our home.

When I was looking for a house, one of things that I would not compromise on was a fence. The house either had to have a fence or be in a community that allowed a fence.
My house already had a fenced in yard.

We live in the country on five acres, so no fences per se, here. There is a barbed wire fence along one side that separates us from what was once a field of cows, but someone has built there now. The fence stayed as it made defining the property lines easier.
When I lived in town, I always wanted a completely fenced in back yard. Kept pets in and people out.
I'm a firm believer in the old adage, good fences make good neighbors.

We had a fence at our old house. It’s a huge priority to get one put up by fall. Our dog needs to run without us having to worry if she will take off. We have about 1.5 acres in the backyard that wil need fenced. We will probably do a black chain link.

There was no fence when we bought our house but several years ago we did put one in for our dog so she could run. Our other dogs never left the yard but this one is easily distracted. I would never have a shock fence nor would I live in a community where no fences are allowed and everything is controlled. I could not live with restrictions!

@sunshine45 In our area most people don't put up fences around their pools but instead erect screened lanais. However, our community pool has nothing at all - just bushes and trees to block the view from the street.
I'm surprised there is no law requiring something.
