Never have owned any Royal Palace wool rugs, but experienced one very similar that just kept shedding wool fluff for years and years, until I finally got rid of it and invested (very little money) in the high-performance synthetic polypropylene (Olefin) rugs available from sources such as Costo, Target and online retail sites everywhere.
These are fantastic in terms of tolerating any type of stains and abuse, don't shed, are very attractive ,and I could go on and on.
I've owned many large and expensive custom-sized rugs cut and bound from nice-quality broadloom carpet that are very nice, but I'd now still opt for lpolypropylene man-made fiber for any area that gets a lot of traffic. Mine are in the front-entrance foyer and rec room.
I also agree that some Royal Palace styles seem dated for today's homes, even though you can still buy those styles from many sources on the internet if you want them. Royal Palace is not the only supplier. Check out Home Decorators' catalog or website, as one example.
I think, but am not sure, that stores such as Macy's and Bloomingdale's also sell the synthetic , as well as wool, area rugs in the same "French-influenced" styles that Royal Palace has traditionally offered.
