@jlkz That's hysterical about your kelvinator. We have one too in our basement. It was DH's parents', not sure why we still have it although we KNOW it still works!!! When our current fridge dies, we just may put the Kel back to work. It'll be a hassle either walking up/down basement stairs to get it all the time or it'll be more of a hassle getting that 1000lb thing back upstairs to the kitchen!!!
I know if people are ever interested in finding a working one, they are expensive. Maybe we'll sell it and retire to Italy!!!!

My cousin, who repairs appliances for a living , claims that washers rust out due to exposure to bleach and the salt air here and that was what actually happened to mine. The transmission literally fell out of it due to the rust. And yes, I am a person who does use bleach, and will continue to do so. I can't imagine sheets and towels are clean when not washed in bleach. Not to mention washclothes, napkins, handkerchiefs and dishrags. In my home those items will always be bleached.

My parents installed a Kitchenaid dishwasher in our home in 1976. I remember because I had a broken ankle at the time. Not one time did that dishwasher ever need to be repaired. We replaced it 16 years ago not because there was anything wrong with it, but because it was that avocado green color! LOL
When DH and I moved into our first place, my mom gave us the fridge that was in her basement. The fridge was from 1952 and we bought our first house in 1990! When we moved out in 1995, we left the fridge and it was still running perfectly fine.
Sometime in the late 90's the belt came off my dryer and we had to call a repairman. He came out and replaced the belt. At that time, he told us that our washer/dryer was from the late 70's and that they were in excellant condition and we should hold on to them as long as we could because the new ones are junk and we'd be lucky to get 10 years out of them. 3 years ago we replaced the set.
Dishwasher was 24 years old
Fridge was 43 years old and still going
Washer/dryer were 35 years old. Oh and the washer still worked but the dryer was shot.

The TV in our bedroom is from 1993. I think it's a Zenith. (We're not at that home right now.)
We already have a flat screen for backup, but I can't part with that TV. Picture and sound is perfect. It's seems like such a waste just to get rid of it.
It's so 'old fashioned looking' that the corners are sharp, not like the Ford Taurus-type TVs (always black) that came out afterwards, but before flat screens.
Actually has a wood grain finish on it. It takes up space that I really could use (cottage house), but I'm not throwing it out.
I was a young thing when we bought that TV!
