Do the elements of this room work together?

I think the picnic table does nothing for the rest of the room.

I think you can do rustic with comfortable chairs instead of awkward benches.

Taking rustic too far for me.

The dining room in my first house shortly after I was married that I begged and borrowed looked better than that room.

No, there’s too much of a contrast between the dark pieces and the lighter components. The pale grey buffet is too light to help make the transition. I agree with @Kachina624 that the picnic table doesn’t work either. It’s too dark and chunky for that space. I like the wall of windows. It seems as though this is an enclosed porch that they’re setting up as a dining area.

Since you asked, I don't like that wall of frames.  There's something about the color of the prints and the color of the frames that ruins the room the room for me.

There are times when you must speak, not because you are going to change the opposing side, but because if you do not speak, they have changed you.

It just doesn't look very comfortable to me.

I agree @Kachina624. I sort of like most of the other elements, though no, I don't think they work all that well together. I like the chairs at the end of the room. From what I can see I really like the chest and as odd as it is to me, I think I even like the large piece of 'art'. But I cannot get down with that ridiculous picnic table. Do not ever expect me to sit and eat on a bench without a back in what is supposed to be a dining room (or anywhere else), informal or not... It's just plain not comfortable.

Just too drab.  No appeal whatsoever....
