Re: Hypothetical question (not really)

My decor is mostly books, so I would be impressed viewing another collection.

Re: Hypothetical question (not really)

No -- but I will say that many years ago we had gone to a friend's house for dinner and I absolutely fell in love with her dinnerware.  The next morning I called to ask if she would mind if we got the same set.  She was absolutely fine with it and we did make the purchase.  It would not have occurred to me not to ask.

Re: Hypothetical question (not really)

@faeriemoon

Not me I'm glad to share my ideas & more when it comes to friends.  But I can honestly tell you, my friends both bought new homes (moved in 2 months apart) in the same community.

My one friend spent days, hours, months planning the decor, paint colors & furniture.  The other friend did nothing.

Fast forward, the one friend came to visit & slowly bought all the same furniture & did same paint colors.

Slowly, she started buying the same "accent" items, including lamps.

When we were finally invited to her new home ...neither of us could believe it -- her house was 80% the same😳.

Needless to say harsh words were exchanged and a 40+ friendship ended☹️☹️☹️.  I was in the "middle" & hated to see good friendship end over furniture & home decor.  I still feel sad to this day -- I've tried to reason with my friend it's just a compliment & furniture...nope😠

I am very careful now when we are shopping together -- to just look and not buy.  I don't want the "wrath" for liking something she does😉

Re: Hypothetical question (not really)

@homedecor1   I don't think there would be any wrath involved for liking something.  LOL.  But I totally get why that friend was angry.  I'm not so sure how fast I'd recover from that one; that really takes the cake.  Sounds like the copycat is kind of clueless.

oh you have no idea what "little" things set her off🙈🙈🙈.

really sometimes its better for me to act "clueless or uninterested".

The saddest part of this is we used to have great times together & now I need to "choose" ☹️

Re: Hypothetical question (not really)

@homedecor1   I can understand buying one or two of the same items or even copying paint color, but when a person clones many things in  your house and steals your style that is a problem.

Home decor and style is personal and individual.  My sister and I have the same coffee table, but much different upholstered furniture pieces and style. Many people have been in both of our homes and even though the table is unique and different, no one has noticed that they are the same. ( She had the table first.  I asked her if she minded if I bought the same item.)

There is nothing wrong or illegal about the cloning home items, but when people go too far with it, it's creepy and feels very invasive.

Re: Hypothetical question (not really)

I'm putting in my 2 cents againSmiley LOL

If I see a home decor magazine and copy the same thing in my house and my friend sees that magazine and does the same decor in her house, why in the world would I be upset.  I'm sure we added our own flair,  touches and we don't live together!

Live and enjoy. Life is to short to get upset about the small stuff.

Change yourself you can't change people.  If it cost your friendship maybe you weren't friends to begin. (I might get flack for this comment)

However, if I buy something and my friends like it they usually ask "do you mind if i get the same thing?" To which I reply why would I careSmiley LOL  I even help them find it.

Even if they don't ask I would not get upset.......

That's all folksSmiley Very Happy

Re: Hypothetical question (not really)

I  going to be brave and say yes. One time I was employee of the month. With the money they gave me I bought myself an expensive watch. A couple day's later a women who sat nexted to me that could buy anything they wanted came to work with the same watch. No I wasn't flattered. I thought it was rude.

Your all thinking I need professional help but that's me being honest.

I've done professional decorating in malls and high end stores and nobody can copy my house.
