We have never had a TV in our living rooms or even our kids bedrooms..just 1 in our family room & one in the den..my husband tells people this story why..he says when we were newlyweds, I read somewhere that there was only 2 things the bedroom was for, sleeping & you know the other! It has worked for us for 51 years! 

@151949, I think we have the same entertainment center..our family was surprised when we got it, but it works for us & I would never get rid of it..ours actually is 3 pieces with a wooden piece holding it together at the top!

Geez another thread started to put other people’s choices down. Why does anyone care what anyone else spends money on to make their house look nice. It’s our house. You do you and I will do what I like.

@151949  Some of these realtors are plain nuts!  Yes, entertainment centers are still in.  Take a look at Pottery Barn.  I have my TV on a sideboard in the living (black) and it has 2 swivel doors and behind each door is 2 shelves for storing books, vases, etc.  I would not move that large entertainment center.  Where would you store it?  Where would your TV go?Ignore her or find a different realtor.  Hopefully, you did not sign up with her.  You should look and interview at least 3 realtors for their point of view and pricing.  Never go too high -- it won't sell but don't go really low.  You want to be inbetween so you can still go down on the 1st bid and possibly 2nd and be happy with the price.

@Evie2004 As I said before - when we were out looking in furniture stores this winter for a new sofa & chair , we saw them all over for sale, so people must be still buying them.They are a lifesaver for the storage they offer when you have a small home, and I have no idea where we'd put all our electronics if we didn't have this .

I have a small home and a large t.v., so it's mounted over the fireplace.  All the wires are hidden in the wall.

These are just images from Googling "TV Stand".  This is what updated TV stands look like from the past 10-15 years.  You can still get those massive ones like below, but they make the rooms look smaller unless you have a 20 x 30 foot sized living room.  Your duplex is not large by your descriptions with moderatish sized rooms, so your current stand, as you described it, makes that room look super small.  I do remember the realtor asked you to put some furniture in storage, so you may want to look at how much you have or the size of the furniture making the rooms look smaller than they are.  The south is known of lovers of big furniture.

Every one of these is hideous and modern ugly. I and many people wouldn't have this junk in the home.

Why would anyone buy a new tv stand and dispose of a piece of furniture they like just to sell their home, when it is totally not necessary to get the job done? That is flat out ridiculous, and the realtor suggesting it is just too lazy to work on the sale and wants it done for them. 

And the passive aggressive backhanded insults about generation and style preference is very unbecoming (but something that happens in your posts). 

Anyone looking at a home and not able to see past the furniture has no creativity and should probably just rent an apartment, with such a lack of vision, they won't be able to create their own space anyway.

The TV in the living room is in a cabinet with a motorized apparatus that raises and lowers the TV within it. Push a button and TV up -- push a button and TV down. All hidden inside the cabinet, which is a gorgeous piece of furniture.

Kitchen TV is on the built-in hutch.

The only TV on a wall is in the sunroom.
