ptagirls - I relate to your post.  I have been searching, bringing home samples for a few months now.  I thought I settled on bamboo but did more searching and feel that perhaps it is not for my lifestyle.  My choice in color will be more in the oak family so showing dust should not be a problem; I know the darker the color, the harder it is to always look clean!  I will be looking at Home Depot's vinyl planks in store.  On-line reviews are good.

@cddh, I hope you've found what you're looking for in flooring.  We ended up going to a local well established floor company here in our town.. It was more expensive, but they did an extremely good job  with installation and they have a lifetime guarantee if anything comes up or discolors and stand behind their installation/product.

I ended up going with the Dakota walnut (CoreTec Plus) color because we have all oak furnishings in the living room ,and cream painted kitchen cabinets with oak trim, and I wanted to have a contrast.

It isn't too dark, though. It looks like the color of a gun stock (medium brown with variations in color with a wood grain), so it's not too dark.  But it does show the dust more, as I had beige ceramic tile in the kitchen and beige carpet in the living room before. We have an open concept and it looks really nice having all the same flooring throughout...

It is a floating floor, not glued down.  It will be easier to remove if we ever have to or want to change things out..you never know...All I know is I'm SOOO glad to be rid of that ceramic floor!  HATED IT!! (What a beast to remove!!) This one is MUCH easier on my legs and much warmer, too.

Good luck in finding your flooring, I know how hard it can be..

I agree with looking at local places that actually lay their own floor. Once places like Home Depot sell you the product they could care less how well it is installed. We had rolled viynl put in this weekend we bought at Home Depot. The contractor was super nice but he did not cut it very well in the corners and we hope that once the floor boards go up he cut it close enough to the wall. If we weren't planning on moving we would probably ask for a refund on the installation. Plus because of a pipe breaking insurance paid for the floor. So we aren't going to be to picky because we won't be living here. And it does look nice.
