I always have a white and gold theme in the living room, entry and dining room. In the family room I do multi color and family decorations collected over the years.
i vary it slightly because I do multiple trees in the home. It depends on how much time I have and how I feel. I do decorate with a few things in the kitchen and den. The last few years I do a large tree on the front porch and a large lighted display in the back yard. (it can be seen from the main road behind us)

I have always used blues and silvers. I saw many years ago on HGTV several designers were doing homes for Christmas, they all stated many times to pick one or two colors and keep the theme going through the house. I do have blue and white lights on my only tree, with totally random ornaments, they are not all blue.
While I do not necessarily have a theme, I am consistent with my colors.
Merry Christmas to all!!!

I'm a traditionalist. The tree we decide to put up will determine the ornaments. If we put up our fake Frazier Fur, I'll use white lights, and an assortment of gold ornaments. If we put up our silver aluminum tree, we use an old-fashioned color wheel and a mix of gold, green, and red shiny ornaments. Maybe I'm too fussy, but I like the gift wrap to blend too so it's always green, red, gold, and silver metallic, sometimes embossed, and then prints in a holiday plaid or small, tasteful print. I will never ever use magenta, lime green, purple, or turquoise for Christmas decorating.
I have a few kitchen tablecloths to rotate, all in traditional red & green (some with white) plaids. From the day after Thanksgiving until Jan. 30th, we only use Longaberger Traditional Holly dishes and serving pieces.

I have changed my Christmas theme over the years. RIght now I am into Peacocks and peacock colors.
While I like the formal white, gold, silver and metallic theme, it screams don’t touch. I prefer happier colors.

I'm pretty traditional-red and forest green and a vintage look, but I do add items that work with the theme....snowmen .....wintry picks...snowflakes ...red cardinals.....woodland animals etc......

I've only recently changed my look for Christmas decor, and only recently been able to put the money toward everything being more coordinated in color and style.
In the past, many of my things were very traditional, but vintage with muted colors, and I still have a lot of those things and love them.
What I have done, so as to use the many different things that I love, is to make different rooms, have different colorways and different styles.
The family room is more primitive. That is were you will find the red truck type decor, primitive snow men, and decorative boxes that have the barn wood look etc.
The dining room has gone red and gold and more elegant.
Most of the living room is gold and ivory, again more elegant.
The kitchen, what little I do, swings between vintage vignettes of things I have from my childhood, and my blue saltgalzed Rowe Santas and snowmen.
I have always preferred a deeper, richer tone to holiday decor. More earthy or jewel tones. Never been a fan of bright colors or odd shades for the season.
I do enjoy doing different areas in different ways, so whenever I find something I love, it doesn't have to be overlooked if it doesn't fit the color or the theme. I can usually work it into some area of the house.

I have three different color themes...gold and cream, red and green, gold and jewel tones...that I use in different years. For the last few years, I've used red and green tartan as the inspiration, so I have used mostly greenery with red accents.
