@Jaspersmom wrote:I have a Dyson and Shark and use them often. They're pretty good, but I do like to get out the corded Dyson for the carpets a few times a week. I only have two carpeted rooms and the rest have wood floors. Come to think of it, I like all of these vacuums. My corded Dyson is about fifteen years old and the other about ten. Both still work great. The corded had to be taken in for service just once. The Shark is relatively new and yes, that's very good too.
@Jaspersmom Thank You!

@wagirl wrote:@BalletBabe --I bought a Shark from HSN late last year--it has the hand vac stick you can detach and use separately but it is hard to hold , kind of thick in diameter and a little heavy.---have to say--it isn't the best for carpets to really get deep down, maybe for a fast pick up--but it is cordless but it last maybe for 1 quick sweep on the hard floors and area rugs, before it loses juice---I also have a corded Shark vac that REALLY gets down and dirty with the carpets--would I buy the cordless again---No I wouldn't.
@wagirl Wow Thanks for your reply. You seem to have a different opinion of everyone else. I have a Shark that is only a year old. I just thought the cordless would be so much better.

@BalletBabe wrote:Does anyone here have a cordless Vac?? If so does it pick up as well as a Corded vac? I like the idea of no cord but don't want to lose suction? Appreciate any tips.
I just bought one this week
Dyson v11
that thing is amazing
so easy to move from room to room with no plug/unplug
costco has 2 available in the store
@jackthebear Thank You!
I got the V11 as I really couldn't figure out the difference between the 2, I liked the feature that shows how much batter is available, and they were the same price after the discount

@BalletBabe --I didn't read many of the replies here---I think if you only had hard floors and no thick carpeting, it would be good---I like nice thick, good quality, carpeting and have a cat so I need something that will really clean down deep--cordless just doesn't have the power and sorry, but spending hundreds of dollars on a vacuum just isn't in my wheel house. Cordless is great for the obvious reason of being cordless but give me my corded Shark rotator vac any day of the week.

@wagirl I have more carpet then bare floors. I really need one that the hair don't wrap. I have long hair and I am so tired of having to cut it out ofthe wheels. Appreciate your reply, Thank You!

In a home with 5 pets, we have:
We noticed a significant difference between the corded and cordless vacs. We prefer the power of a corded vac. The Shark corded stick vac is probably the easiest to use on a regular basis -- picks up all the pet hair in one pass.
Between Shark and Dyson, we prefer Shark. We really can't tell the difference in performance between our Sharks & Dysons, so the extra money for a Dyson just isn't worth it to us.
Around here, Dyson stick vacums or older style Dyson canister vacs can be found at second-hand stores for ridiculously reasonable prices -- about 75-90% off. Some are brand new in their original boxes!
