I guess I was lucky to have a bunch of great aunts.  One of them taught me how to wash wool and silk.  Back in college we did matching skirts and sweaters and I washed both.

 

Some manufacturers put in a dry clean tag only because of poor washing technique.

 

No one sent their sweaters to the dry cleaners 150 years ago.

I saw a TV show on the Japanese Channel.

 

It was fascinating. They were cleaning high end designer clothing from the 50s and 60s.

 

The guy washed a Chanel suit, very carefully. It looked brand new when he was finished. They had a picture of a woman wearing in the suit 50 years ago. And he made the suit look just as nice as it looked originally.
