In a movie I recently watched, there was a canopy bed. When I was 7, my parents bought me a bedroom suite with a double bed that was a canopy bed.
My mom changed out the canopy, bedspread, shams, & curtains about every 2 years. She took down the fabric canopy regularly to launder it, & I don't think it was a convenient task.
As a kid, it was kind of fun having the canopy. I could read under it, play Barbies, etc., and it was kind of like being in a special little world - maybe like being in a kid's fort. In high school, the fabric canopy was replaced with a crocheted tablecloth-like cover. In my senior year of h.s., we took the canopy off and I had the poster bed instead.
Did you have a canopy bed?

@Desert Lily I always wanted a canopy bed as a child but never got it. Now it would just be an inconvenient dust catcher. I don't think they're as popular as they once were, even among children.

I have two canopy beds and they really need a room with high ceilings. Otherwise when you have fabric on the frames, it can overwhelm a small room. Also the knotted canopies are better to put on a canopy bed if it is in a smaller room. They are more open.

I never did, but they certainly are beautiful! They have one in a hotel/inn we frequent and I find it very charming.

I had a canopy bed similar to the second picture for about a year. It was, indeed, a dust catcher. I lost my fascination with it quickly.
Edited to add: But, it was lovely. ![]()

I wanted one when I was a child, but never had one....nor did any of my friends.
I always shared a bedroom, I never had my own until I was in high school and my older sister FINALLY got married. I didn't think that day was ever coming. I really wanted her room.

We actually still have one! It is a flat queen-sized one. After we moved here we took the top down and the bottom posts so we could watch TV in bed.
When we were buying bedroom furniture this one was on sale - LOL! ![]()

I have one right now, that can be converted to a canopy frame, but I chose not to add the canopy for my particular space. You need room for it.
If I had a higher ceiling in that BR, I might have set it up. I've always loved canopy beds. I know kids love them, but some adults, too. They can be elegant.
There's something comforting about the semi-enclosed feeling. I've enjoyed a couple of them at some hill country B&B's. They take me back to youth, of draping a sheet over a couple of chairs for a tent like, private place.

Pretty examples, @Desert Lily ! I love the bare frames of canopy beds, without the fabric-- they can look so architectural, and you can get the room-within-a-room feeling without dealing with extra fabric to be washed frequently.

I always wanted one when I was a kid (but never got one.)
