Maybe , instead of sitting at a computer reading about decluttering you all should consider getting in there and working up a sweat. That is what gets the job done - not 15 min. That is just a waste of 15 min. Sorry you don't like to hear that - but the FACT is - the only way to get a house clean is to get physically in there and DO THE WORK. Whether you like to hear it or not - that is the fact of it. If some internet site isn't telling you that - they are lying to you. I hope you guys aren't paying money for this site.

If you even went to the site before going off (yet again) you would see that this site also has information/links to storage and organizational equipment that even those who already have everything 'cleaned out' would find interesting and useful.

Not everyone is going to trash out their house, keep the bare minimum for survival and not need organizational ideas tips and systems. Many people live in small spaces, CHOOSE to keep more things than others deem necessary, yet can use sites and tips like these to keep their spaces clean, organized and items accessible.

You really should do a little research before yammering on about things you know nothing about, as this site charges nothing for the information contained in it.

mominohio, this is one of those posters who has me on ignore and I don't care. I've learned with this one that you will never get through with her holier than thou attitude. It seems the world revolves around her. She's like the big dark rain cloud over the sunny day.

I'm going to bookmark that website and the other one someone mentioned. Thanks again; it doesn't hurt to have some other ideas.

Re: Great website for New Year organization and decluttering

Thanks so much for this information. I just got through saying to my husband that this is the year for de cluttering and organization and getting rid of clothing. I for one can use any help and tips out there. I get rid of items regularly but seem to still hang on to some things I just don't need or use. What an interesting site. Thanks again I am going to do the challenge.

Re: Great website for New Year organization and decluttering

Thanks for the great websites! I spent the day decluttering and reorganizing many things in our home; however, sometimes I get "stuck" with how best to tackle something that will end up being helpful vs. just a reorganized mess. I am always open to new ideas (and even more so if they help! LOL!) I work full-time at a very stressful job, so anything that can simplify my life is always appreciated!

lucylover64: Do you mean sorting what will truly be used versus just straightening up everthing? Like in a kitchen drawer---do you find it difficult to decide what to put back in the drawer and what to dispose of in some manner? This is what I do with those "ifs". I put back what I know I will use and need to keep. Those that I clearly will not need or want, I put in a tote. I have "donate" "e-bay" "garage sale" totes. Then those "ifs". I put in a tote and mark the date. If I haven't gone to the tote to retrieve something for (you determine the amount of time--I chose three months), then it is gone.

I'm not sure if this is what you meant, but if it is I hope it is helpful.

Re: Great website for New Year organization and decluttering

It feels great to get decluttered, and I actually do like to organize. I enjoy web sites like this with good ideas. Even though my house is pretty good, there's always room for improvement. Thanks for the link! I'm familiar with the flylady site. That's a good one, too.

The only thing I don't agree with on many of these decluttering sites is getting rid of things if you haven't used it in a certain amount of time. As long as I have the room to keep things neat and organized, I'm keeping them. I bought them because I liked and wanted them, and I do use them even if infrequently.

Re: Great website for New Year organization and decluttering

I like the idea of the website, thank you for taking your time to let us know. My issues are things like monogramed glasses, silver set that won't polish nice. I'm the last one of the family left. Do I yard sale that stuff or pitch it? {#emotions_dlg.ohmy} A true cedar chest full of fashion jewelry (unfortunately) the funeral home really put major gashes in it............way too late to do anything about that. These are the kinds of things I just don't know, so it sits here. I don't want to leave it all for dh as I have one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel. {#emotions_dlg.scared} I live in an extremely rural town and don't have any connections. Thanks for listening and any ideas would be swell.

I hear you about the organized mess. Sometimes I 'clean out' a closet, get rid of a few things, straighten and organize it, to only have it look as bad as it started out just a month or two down the road. I know it is because I have too much in there, didn't get rid of enough, and in reality, kind of wasted my time. Spaces have to be more than organized, they have to not be overstuffed (they have to be functional and not frustrating), unless it is what I call a 'once a year' space, like the closet I keep Christmas decor. Only in there once a year to get out and pack up the decor, so the rest of the year it is rather out of sight out of mind, so if it is too full, I can ignore that (or used to be able to, not so much lately!).
