I want to get new bedroom furniture and need a new washer. Have been saving and want to pay cash.
Is there any downside to paying cash? I have never bought anything costly with cash.
Do I just take a wad of cash with me?!!

@OhioAngel ....... I wouldn't bring the cash with me. Deposit the funds into your bank account. Pay for it on your credit card... then when the statement arrives pay for it in full. I don't see any downside. HTH

Great idea ...then if there is anything wrong .. you can withhold payment ...

@OhioAngel Congratulations on saving for your new furniture and washer. I never carry a large amount of cash. If you have a debit card with your bank, that would be the same as cash. For me, I use a card that acquires travel points and I use it for purchases throughout the month then pay the balance at the end of the month. Also using a credit card protects you if there is any problem with the purchase. Because I carry a zero balance, I consider it the same as paying cash. Or you could use a check.
Any of these methods would work so you don't have to carry large sums of money with you. I only see an upside to paying off purchases immediately, if possible. Also, in some cases, you might get a discount for using cash. It never hurts to ask.

I wouldn't pay cash.
I did that once when buying a washer because the store offered a discount for cash. When they delivered the washer I noticed a dent so I wouldn't accept it. It took about 10 days to get my money back. They couldn't just give me cash they had to write me a check so it had to go through their business office. I did get my money back but I thought it took too long.
Now I always purchase big ticket items with a credit card. It's easier to get a refund and you can dispute a charge.
Edited to try to make the font bigger. Doesn't seem to change, though.

I never pay cash for big ticket items.I always use a credit card. It’s easier if there are any problems. You just call the company & contest the payment. Some company’s also extend your manufacturers warranty by a year or two if you use their card.
Put the washer on your credit card. Then pay it off when you get the bill to avoid interest charges.I do it all the time.

Do you have a checking account? A check and debit card- same as cash.
I would make such a purchase on my credit card, get the points, which is cash back to me and pay in full on the next statement.
Should there be a problem, you are protected by using a CC. Not so with cash payment.

Negotiate a cash price then write a check.

. . .
Is there a particular reason you want to pay cash, @OhioAngel?
I know people who prefer to pay in cash. Often, they can negotiate a lower cash price. Those who are good at this have years of practice wrangling over prices, and always seem to know someone who knows someone...
I also know people who pay cash by necessity.
No bank account or credit cards.
