Getting a gray whitewash finish

[ Edited ]

I have a oak colored nightstand I am thinking about redoing. Does anyone know of a product I can get a white gray white wash finish. Something close to this.

Re: Getting a gray whitewash finish

@ccassaday: You could try chalk paint with a polycrylic coating over top.

I would try two different shades of grey ( a light and a dark).. and use a dry-brush method to come up with the color you want.... then apply a coating of a polycrylic (matte or satin) over top to protect the finish...then change the hardware to whatever color works best..... Anyway, that would be my suggestion.. Good Luck!

Hi @ccassaday, I absolutely LOVE Annie Sloan's Chalk Paint.

There's no need to sand/scrape in order to re-finish.  That's huge for me.

You just paint it on.  Lots of different colors to choose from and grey (from dark to much lighter) and/or white are options.  You can do the distressed look, too.

The best thing about it, besides not having to sand or worse, use chemicals to remove finish, is that it's low or no VOCs.

You don't want to be breathing that in all night as you sleep!

Edited to add:  I've only used Annie Sloan's Chalk Paint.  Have no experience with other brands.  But she does have a wax to apply after painting to make the surfaces more adaptable to everyday living.  Tough as nails!  Very easy stuff to work with.  Very easy.  You'll be done in no time, tapping your fingers looking around for other things to paint!  Not kidding!

I used spray paint . Almond Gloss  and a Vanilla Gloss and then sprayed on  a  Brass , Bronze and  Silver spray over the light colors. My dressers look very nice  and fabulous .

@ccassaday  How about Magnolia?  You know the couple from Fixer Upper.  I believe they sell paints and may have other products.

@Lucky Charm.  I had the same experience with Annie Sloan’s chalk paint as you. Did my pine dining room table that had polyurethane on it. No prep. Distressed it and used the wax. I highly recommend it.

@proudlyfromNJ  One of my projects this summer was painting my kitchen table--the color of cantelope!  I love it!

What color did you paint your dining table?

@Lucky Charm.  Cantelope! That must look great! I did mine white as it can be seen from the kitchen and living room.
