Slightly off topic - I have a container of FEBREEZE - not really sure why I bought it, but is it harmful to the fabric it is sprayed on....meaning does it build up on fabric?
I think I purchased it to use on my husbands lazyboy chair...

Thanks. I'll try to find you.

I use essential oils in a small oil burner with water. Peppermint and lemongrass are my favorites.

@SandGirl DH and I are allergic to scent, so we usually just open up the windows. To create a special ambiance, we simmer cinnamon sticks and cloves on the stove.

I love "Fabric Fresh" made by The Laundress. Works in the air or on fabrics.

@skatting44 I am a clean FREAK, any capenting is shampoo'd 4 times a year and it doesn't even need it, no shoes in the house!
Nothing to do owith a dirty home, I was just curious what others liked to use for scent in thier homes since many use something to help their home smell nice is all.

I don't think she was implying you have a dirty home! Goodness.

I open the windows. Even in winter, crack one open for 15 minutes and it airs out the stink. All the air fresheners are full of chemicals. We end up breathing them into our bodies. Can't be healthy or good for the body. Or wearing them in our clothes from laundry soaps or softeners. I sometimes use 100% pure essential oils in a diffuser as someone else said. Another idea that would be better than chemicals in your home would be to get a good air cleaner, look on Consumer Reports for their tests. Not all brands work well even if highly hyped by your favorite host. Oh, yes, you can buy Yummi brand essential, oils in a spray or Aura Cascia brand. I can find these at Target or a grocery store or the health food type grocery stores.

@Growing I agree about open windows, though I know that's not feasible for everyone. I open mine for at least an hour or so midday if I can, and would keep them all open wide year-round if I could. Whole house fans are also wonderful for moving fresh air through efficiently.
But there are quite a few air fresheners that do not have harmful chemicals--or heavy artificial scents--if you look for them. And if you use similarly natural products for cleaning, those alone are probably enough to freshen the way your house smells.
