When did fall decorating become popular? Have you Or your family always decorated for fall? Growing up I don’t really remember anyone decorating except for maybe some pumpkins, mums, hay, and corn shocks outside, nothing inside. I just thought about this and thought I’d ask others. 😊

Re: Fall decorating question

I decorate for Christmas. That's it and then it's a tree. Nothing fancy, no displays, no wreaths, nothing but a tree. Around here in Arizona I have a few neighbors who have already put out some decorations for Halloween. Can't put a pumpkin out because it would shrivel in a couple of days. I've never decorated for anything but Christmas. Maybe I'm just lazy, or maybe I just don't want to store it all in the garage.

Only decorate for Christmas. Too much work to start decorating for fall and then for spring.

[ Edited ]

I've always decorated for every season and St Patrick's Day and 4th of July and Easter- ok you asked lol!

But sometimes lately I've missed a few.

Maybe if I lived in Arizona where there aren't as noticeable seasons I wouldn't.

I always feel sorry for people in Florida for example at Christmas time. My daughter lived there for a few years and the reindeer with the palm trees, just no😕

Re: Fall decorating question

My family never decorated for any season except Christmas and I still don't see people doing a lot of seasonal decorating.  I think, thanks to Valerie, it's become a one-upmanship activity among QVC viewers with elaborate decor in every room of their homes for every season and holiday.  It sort of boggles the mind.

Re: Fall decorating question

@YellowLabMom   Interesting question.....makes me wonder if those who experience seasons tend to decorate more as the seasons change.  Those on the west coast, perhaps not so much.

Re: Fall decorating question

It probably does matter where you live. All my neighbors always decorated too. So if you live where seasons change especially beautiful fall etc, I think people decorate more.

Just what I've noticed. And I guess depends on neighborhoods too.

Sometimes people are just too tired to bother or too busy or it just isn't something they enjoy.

Re: Fall decorating question

My mom had a specific space that she decorated for the seasons, spring/summer, fall, winter.  I decorate for the same seasons, I do not go overboard and do not decorate outside.

I guess it's a privilege to indulge in the aesthetics of the moment.

I do enjoy the seasons, and I do enjoy my decor as a reflection of that.  It doesn't have to be fancy.  A beautiful leaf, ironed between two sheets of wax paper, is pretty.

Re: Fall decorating question

My family and I have enjoyed fall decorating for MANY years! I do not recall when it actually began, but I was watching a Valerie fall decorating show many sunsets ago, and have been hooked ever since. I recently visited family in the PNW, and we spent hours decorating indoors. It was a labor of love.😊
