Certain stores put things together so well in their online, and hard cover catalogs, don't you think?
I like perusing One Kings Lane, and Restoration Hardware (I think they're trying to make us say just "RH" now, but I resist all forms of mind control, ha). But my favorite is the English company, OKA.
This living room display they did has become an acclaimed landmark of their style-- it is so understatedly elegant, yet comfortable.
In this picture, they pulled back a bit so you can see more. I did prefer the throw pillows in the smaller picture, but seeing more of the room including the 1920's portrait, and the height of the windows, is a treat.
It looks like a Tudor revival or Cotswold cottage, with that Gothic arch in the fireplace, and many-paned windows. You could easily incorporate more color, as the mood strikes.
It could almost be a room in "Manderley", the dreamy house in Daphne DuMaurier's "Rebecca"!
Another OKA room, not as poignantly timeless, but pretty--
For some contrast, in a modern vein, the online catalog of Zara Home also creates interesting rooms, based on their contemporary style. While not a modernist, I see the charisma of this peaceful, spare, but not hard-edged, room. Great photography helps, too...
But for me, Zara Home does the best outdoor photos ever, to showcase their outdoor furniture--
Whoa, a swim to the horizon would be just the thing...

Wish I knew the wall color in the third room. It's a soothing green. I also love sisal area rugs.

In our previous house our bedroom was painted that color. I believe it was called White Sage. (Pittsburgh Paint) You can probably google it.

The OKA rooms are lovely, though, for me, some could use at least a hint more color. As for the remainder, I don't appreciate modern, so they have no appeal for me.

Just give me unlimited funds and a Pottery Barn Catalog! Remove all the items from my home (not PB items) and I will happily furnish my entire home from the catalog.
While I have decor and lighting PB items I have recreated many ideas found in their catalogs at a lesser cost.

The first pictures of the living room are beautiful although I would add some color. I love that mantle, also the windows are spectacular and the area so spacious and comfortable looking. The lovely drapes and the decor are standouts in the second OKL living room.
While not a fan of Modern decor, I actually like the Zara living room, uncluttered and spacious, I do appreciate that look at times even if opposite of my decor!!!! The pool is very appealing.

Very nice rooms! I love the Front Gate and Pottery Barn catalogs.
I don't buy anything from ZARA because they exploit their workers and have deplorable working conditions.

Wow, that's good to know, @ECBG -- I didn't realize that.
