Re: Expiration date for Laundry detergent?

I looked at my all free and clear detergent and there's no experation date on it. I googled does laundry detergent expire and it said liquid is good12 to 18 months unopened and opened about 6 months, pods about the same,  powered detergent good indefinitely as long as it stays dry and detergent sheets last like 3 years .

I did read some time ago that the covering of the pods can fail to dissolve properly when they get too old but have never heard of a shelf life for any laundry detergent. I don't' buy super huge quantities of it anyway. I know i use it up before it could ever be considered old. Sometimes articles will come out about expiration dates to help move products....get people to toss what they have and buy newer ones. I do pay attention to expiration dats on some perishable things....but not for soap or detergent.

Re: Expiration date for Laundry detergent?

My thoughts are that no product manufactured under government standards is meant to sit on an open store shelf indefinitely.

If a detergent bottle has a date on it, it's the sell by date the store is held responsible for.  It has nothing to do with the quality of the detergent, and most of us would not toss our laundry detergent if it had an expired date on it.  However, most products that sit unused for years and years, will separate, at which point their effectiveness is questionable.

I don't pay attention either.

DD is horrible about this. If something is ONE DAY past a "sell by" date, she will toss it!  Smiley Frustrated
