I bought same/similar model from QVC years ago.  Still working, no problems.  It cannot replace a 'regular' vacuum in my opinion.

I use it for quick pick ups, on my back porch and occasionally in the kitchen.  On my model you have to keep a button engaged to keep it working.  I don't know if there is now an on/off button or not.

@fthunt    I'll say this, I've had 4 Dyson vacuums, and based on my experience, their customer service is among the best.  No appliance that runs on a rechargeable battery is going to last forever.

Thank you.  My old Black & D for kitchen crumbs & car is losing 'steam'.    Minute for strength and then huffing & puffing.

You gave me courage to make the jump.

i have the Version 8 and while I love it and think it works great, for me it is heavy and when the time comes that it no longer works at my age and with my arhtritic hands and the fact that I no longer have the income I once had,I will go with another company.

Nothing at all against Dyson, I love mine but it was not inexpensive and I know they have to say something to sell them but when they say, if you hve the previous model why not upgrade?  Well because for some it is a Considered purchase thats why".  i know some people can afford it and I could too if it was a priority for me. It just is not.

So if i had to do it all over again I would not.

@fthunt

This particular Vendor Rep is a bit disingenuous ----  she has a demonsrtration where she plugs the vaccum in with a timer and says you can run this cordless for an hour....what she doesnt say is that she has set it only on the LOW speed, and you get that performance only on  hardfloors or a very clean carpet.... Consumer Reports and many other reviews say on the HIGH setting on carpet with average wear it runs from 8 to 10 minutes which is quite a DIFFERENCE!!!

i have had the lightweight cordless for quite a while.  I use it daily so that I don't always have to pull out my canister vacuum.  There are a few issues that I dislike very much:

1. Having to empty the bin with all the dust and hairs floating around - wearing a face mask helps, though!

2. Biggest issue for me - having to pull the "trigger" continuously to keep the vacuum running.  I want an on/off switch!  The response I have gotten about this "saving battery life" is just not a good reply!  Somehow or other I manage to turn on my canister vacuum while I run it and turn it off when I'm done.
