Anyone else waiting to hear if they have won the Dream Home on Martha's Vineyard?
Is that a beautiful area to live in year round?

Carmie, thank you for your reply. I've also wondered if it feels "claustrophobic" to live on a small island.

I'm opting for the cash option, if I win.
I couldn't afford to pay the Federal taxes that would be due on that prize.
Quite a few of the Dream House winners have had to relinquish them because of the huge tax bill from Uncle Sam.

We already have our own dream home. We just rebuilt our cottage on our beautiful lake here in MI. We are selling our home and will be moving up there permanently this summer. Life couldn't get any better!

I agree with loving your current dream home! To be mortgage free is so great!
Even if I did win the dream home, I woud take the cash option because I don't want to move away from my children and grandchildren, or my friends. Home is where the heart is!
I have heard that most winners cannot afford to live in the dream homes, which is why HGTV does offer the cash option so that people can have a more affordable way to have a dream home of their choosing. That would be so nice!

Because Martha's Vineyard attracts many, many affluent people, you could own a home there by renting it out. I have seen the expensive cars and tons of luggage being hauled to the island on the ferry.
It is a lovely place to visit and have a bite or two for lunch. I would love to be able to spend some time there in the warmer months. If you ever visit Cape Cod, take the ferry to MV to spend the day.

The problem is paying the $300,000-$400,000+ state and federal income taxes. They want their money fairly immediately.
