Are you getting rid of everything else that you don't ever wear? Are you doing a total purge? What about when you need an outfit to go to some place like church or out to dinner, etc.? Do you have designated outfits just for that? I'm just curious because I keep way too much because I'm always of the mindset of --- what if --- . I don't find really great thing any more the way I used to and for the price that I used to so I don't want to get rid of things that I may possibly have need of and then I have already donated them.
1. No. I never do a big purge since we moved the last time. I do not throw away any old clothes I still like to wear no matter how old they are.
2. I do church online and we don't eat out any more. We are delighted because we ate out so much both socially and so many lunches and dinners out for work that we are sick of restaurants. Friends are all dead or moved, so we are taking life easy now.
3. I have a few outfits that would be fine should some occasion arise, but I can't think of one. I have stopped going to funerals; went to far too many and had to make arrangements for far too many. Family gone now.
4. I hate clothes shopping and always have. I like classic clothes and wouldn't be caught dead (see there?!
) in the latest trend that "everybody" is wearing.
I hope this helps! Good questions and fun to think about! And no, we no longer travel for our jobs, go to dinners, lectures, meetings, conferences, board meetings, openings, retirement dinners, charity things, plays, musicals, and all that. And we are at home, with one another and happy as we can be!!!!!

Note: Today I am wearing a pair of heathered taupe/walnut knit pants from Appleseeds, and an old turquoise LLBean heavier-weight, long seleeved t-shirt that is two sizes too big and I can't tell you how long.
The t-shirt has a brushed finished and is just heavy enough on chilly days. It wasn't cheap to buy, but is a bargain for how long I've worn it and how good it still looks!

@Sooner - I hear ya!
We've lost a number of friends (due to Covid) that we used to go to dinner with, and DH only works 4 days a week now, so besides going to Church, Kroger and Dollar Tree (LOL), I've been able to toss, donate or give away quite a bit of clothing and household items that I no longer use, need or want.
The older I've become, the more I realize that "less is more" makes a lot of sense for us and our lifestyle. ![]()

@AngelPuppy1 - I also use to be of the "what if" mindset and I would hold onto clothing "just in case". These items were never worn and just took up space in my closet.
My mindset now is if these articles of clothing aren't getting used, I donate. Someone out there can hopefully enjoying wearing them instead of hanging in my closet forever.
I know. I have gotten a lot better at this. But -- there is always a but - right?? But -- I have quite a few times donated items which I thought -- nope, will never have a need for this and then - don't you know --- not that long later - and then I went looking for said item and realized - oops -- I gave it away. However, I do realize a person has to periodically weed "stuff" out or we will be overloaded and taken over.

Thank you for answering my questions. Didn't mean to be so nosy! I get what you are saying and really, I am pretty much of the same mindset and situation in life as you are! Most of my friends (close ones) have either passed away or are in other states. I have next to no family left or at least ones which want to have association with DH and I (that's a whole nother story there). DH and I are not in great health, so we don't go much of any place other than have to things such as doctors, etc. We occasionally go out to dinner - but not often. As for special occasions or outings to wear "fancier" clothing --- what is that --- LOL?? I prefer to be comfortable in what I am wearing. After all, who will see me besides DH? And he feels the same way.

I have found keeping a small box in my closet to toss something in when I think I won't wear it and donating it when it becomes full works better for me than a major purge. Impulsively I pull something out and decide not to wear it because it realls isn't something I like makes the decision easy at that moment. A few more trips to drop off but it is helping me clear out the things I no longer wear.

That's a very good idea -- and a lot easier!

I think that this next year I will filter down my closet (sad to do so). There's just to much and I am at the age where I won't need to have a lot of things.
