Doing Inventory of What I Need and Will Wear

Ending the year with an inventory of casual pants and what I actually wear.  I am ordering four pair of LL Bean pants I love.  I already have two.  On sale, and part of my daily rotation.

Spend money on what you will wear.  Novel concept?  So now I will have 6 pair comfy knits, 6 pair of these, and three pair of sweat pants so every day, I pick something, wear it and toss it in the laundery.

Then the three or four pair of jeans I wear occasionally are hanging there easy to get.  And a couple pair of "nice" pants.

Tops?  Ahhhh. . . spring refresh to tackle those!

Good for you! I sooooo wish I could whittle down my junk, especially clothes.

I think just having a few pieces of your favorites would be so liberating and just peace inducing......

Good for you. Always good to have things in your closet that you know you like and will wear.

My pants wardrobe is difficult to pare down because I'm always looking for a good fit. I don't like the extremes of super tight stretch pants or loose baggy pants. Different sizes in different brands fit me differently. I own pants and jeans in 3 sizes right now. Several are tight, some are loose, and a few are just right. (I sound like Goldilocks.🤣)

I used to take my work trousers to the tailor to get a better fit. Now that I'm retired I just "make do". I should probably get back in the habit of tailoring pants since those are the most difficult items for me to find, but it's expensive.

I have lots of tops, sweaters, blazers, jackets, and shoes.
I need casual clothes and dressier items for singing at church. I could probably get rid of some pieces, but I do like a variety of items. I would get bored wearing the same things over and over.

Best Wishes to You in the New Year!

I just did the same.  Went through the good and casual pants realizing as you that there are favorites for sure.  Tried and true will stick with them.

Also found a few things I forgot I have, one is a beautiful never worn Talbots black velvet button down shirt.

Glad I found that before spring.  ha.

@wilma I have bought so much fast fashion over the years, most of which I wore once and a lot of which I never wore.  I feel like you that I want a variety and I want casual and dressy for church and club meetings.  Sometimes things that look good and have great reviews are blah and nah when I get them and I often convince myself I will wear them and then I never do.  Lots of stuff went to Asheville, NoCar after Helene, stuff I wore once or never wore, lots of them were in dry cleaning bags still.

@wilma I'm not that fussy about fit and rather than being bored wearing the same things, it is a great relief to me not to have to shop for, try on, and have a lot of different stuff hanging in my closet to pick through.  It's grab and go for me!  Woman Happy

You're smart to do that.  I need to choose some more but for now,  that's on a later list. Now, I have too much going on.

Are you getting rid of everything else that you don't ever wear?  Are you doing a total purge?  What about when you need an outfit to go to some place like church or out to dinner, etc.?  Do you have designated outfits just for that?  I'm just curious because I keep way too much because I'm always of the mindset of --- what if --- .  I don't find really great thing any more the way I used to and for the price that I used to so I don't want to get rid of things that I may possibly have need of and then I have already donated them.

@AngelPuppy1  -  I also use to be of the "what if" mindset and I would hold onto clothing "just in case".  These items were never worn and just took up space in my closet.

My mindset now is if these articles of clothing aren't getting used, I donate.  Someone out there can hopefully enjoying wearing them instead of hanging in my closet forever.
