We live in a condo complex on the edge of a small town.  There's another condo complex and an apartment complex in walking distance near us but no stores, restaurants, bars etc.  It's the burbs.  We bought there because we wanted a condo but we also wanted to be in the country.   We have to drive everywhere but malls, stores, restaurants are not a very far drive.  On the plus side, the beach is short drive a way too.  I often day dream about living in the heart of the city where wouldn't even have to own a car.  Restaurants, theatre, sporting events, shopping would all be in walking distance or we could take public transportation.  It's a nice dream but a condo similar to the one we live in now would cost over  a million dollars in  the city.....way out of our price range.
