I live at high altitude. I wanted my windows to be filled with argon gas to make them more energy efficient but found out that high altitude compromises the insulative properties of the gas...has something to do with the pressure at sea level vs high attitude locations. Because of that I had to choose a local window manufacturer for my window replacements. Most all of the major big brand window companies have their factories at low elevations so their windows would have to be transported up to me which would compromise the gas-filled panes so I did not choose any of those companies.
Just wanted to pass that info along.![]()

@Birkilady,
Did you get double hung or just glass?
TIA.

I called them yesterday. THey REFUSED to give me a "virtual" appointment.
I kept telling the scheduler I didn't need a heavy sales pitch; I already knew what I wanted.
He was speechless ...
I never got the appointment.

@NickNack wrote:@RinaRina Be prepared for the windows to be very expensive. My sister is replacing her windows with Marvin, and I couldn't believe the price. She isn't getting sound proof windows either, but they will be very nice windows. I think she had to do her window sills, too. She got at least four estimates for Pella, Marvin and Anderson.
Did you sister tell you why she chose Marvin?

@RinaRina She did a lot of research and knows that Marvin is an excellent product. The salesman spent a lot of time with her and explained everything that they would do. Overall I think she had three good quality products to choose from and (I think) four estimates. She went with the person she felt most comfortable with.

@RinaRina There's no way they could do an appointment like that virtually. They have to get the measurements exactly right, and they need to look at the condition of your window sills and everything surrounding the windows. A virtual appt. would be impossible for windows.

@BirkiLady That was my thinking as well, that she is speaking of triple pane windows. That is something I may be interested in as well.

SIGH ... these window companies are making me tired!
I called one company and told him I wanted triple pane vinyl windows.
He asked my "why?".
I told him I needed an STC rating of at least 35 for noise abatement.
HE SAID, "you don't need that. That's not going to solve your noise problem."
I blew up!
I need a break. I can't make anymore phone calls.

If the only reason you are considering replacing your windows is due to noise, you need to consider other options which will surely be less expensive.
Try googling sound reducing windows, or noise reducing windows. There are inserts that can be added. Depending upon the company they can be quite attractive. They also would probably help with drafts. There was an article I read online Soundproofing Windows - Old House Journal Magazine by Mary Ellen Polson.

@RinaRina Do you have any idea how much this will cost? My sister just went through this, and her estimates were between $20 - $30,000. She is not getting triple paned windows either. What if you spent that money and it didn't solve your problem?
@RinaRina I need to correct my earlier statement. Her estimates were between $27 - $40,000.
