We love our house in the country. It is too big for us but we do not want to sell it. We are certainly old enough to size down. If we do move it will be to be closer to our son and his family. They recently bought a house near the ocean. I love the ocean!

We have friends who just spent a half million + for a gorgeous home on the Gulf of Mexico.Beautiful brand new home - all the possible amenities - outdoor kitchen , one whole wall of the house opens to reveal the view of the water ..... I could go on & on. But - he has to travel constantly for his job & now she is retired she travels with him. They are scarcely ever there. 1 day this week - a few days later in the month.... they could easily live in a hotel room and would hardly notice the difference. She keeps asking me if we'd like to stay during the periods of time they aren't there because it is a shame it's empty all the time.I doubt he'll ever retire unless one of them gets sick - just not his style to sit around. What a waste of an outstanding home.

I love my comfortable home and where I live, it's like my husband and I are on vacation 24/7.

Some people enjoy the active life and love to work. It isn't a waste of a home, it is what makes them happy. They would probably HATE sitting at home all the time. People are different.

@DowntonAbbey wrote:I do love where I live and I am so blessed with my flat...........so thankful. I have windows although I can't see out of my front living room as it is tiny and the windows are doubled and it has a film on it and he will not take it out and give me a new one said the window is in the cement but someone said it can be done. Love my flat. It is small though.
I'm not sure I have the same idea of what a flat is. I've always thought a flat was a single floor apartment. It could be in an apartment building or a multi-family house. Recently I heard a condo referred to as a flat.
I thought you talked about living in a house with a garden and yard.
It's nice to read you like where you live.

A flat is my apartment and no I do not live in the cottage I loved so much anymore, last Apil there were too many people killed on my street and my landlords daughter said she could not handle me getting killed so they gave me another place to live..........so I don't have my little house I loved so much nor my beautiful garden of flowers..........I worked out side in my garden every day and people would stop and say how much they loved it even the men that probably did a lot of the shooting...............such a shame. I drive there every once in awhile just to see the home and it is still empty as he does not want to put anyone in it.............so pretty.

I don't think I will ever get over having to move from that home.

I loved my old home dearly, and hated to have to leave it, but my new home is so perfect for DH and me thatI am wildly grateful that we took the jump.
I'm enjoying figuring out how to make the changes needed to make it just perfect for us.
I think the Angels were pushing us to find it.

I'm so glad your transition is a happy one for you. So many people, when it comes time to downsize or life's circumstance change and we have to change with it, it can be sad, and difficult to accept.
I had a great aunt and uncle who had a home right on the water of Lake Erie in northern Ohio (for those that aren't that familiar with the Great Lakes, living right on the lake is much like living ocean side....beaches, beautiful water, waves, boating etc.). In the eighties, they realized they couldn't do the work anymore (he was riddled with arthritis and she was almost blind). My uncle put his foot down and insisted they get a condo, and my aunt went, but kicking and screaming all the way. It took her a year or two, but she was so grateful for their new place and it's ease of living once she got used to it.
There really is a season for all things. Sometimes letting go of those seasons isn't the easiest thing to do, but I really am happy that you have embraced your transition. Have fun with the new place.

@Catlady Nicole wrote:I enjoy being home more than anything else in the world!! Sometimes I worry that I'm a bit too reclusive! I look forward to getting home from work and hanging out with my kitties every day. Some weekends I park the car Friday night when I get home from work and don't leave again till Monday. I do my errands after work, since I'm already out.
I used to be on the go constantly, and then I took the plunge and bought my first home. It's been love ever since!
Are there things I'd like to change? Sure. I have lists of home projects, some big, some small, but I still love home. It has the perfect layout for me, just the right amount of room, and just the amenities I need to be comfortable. I am very happy with my choice and while it may be modest to some, it's truly my dream home as far as reality is concerned. Now, if I were a millionaire, well, I'd probably upgrade
My sentiments exactly, @Catlady Nicole !!! Except in my house it is dogs, not cats. My coworkers laugh when I come in on Monday mornings and say that I did not leave the house all weekend!! I LOVE to be home with DH and my puppies!!!
