I am thinking a red pattern of some sort stair runner and a larger and more open red floral arrangement on the side table. And, a large picture over the red settee with some more reds in it to really set the black and white off.

Now that would make a statement and not give so much attention to the floor.. the floor should compliment the space, not take over the space.

I absolutely love it ... the whole shebang ... I have a similar 1940s-style console in my living room.

With the exception of the pattern on the carpeting, and changing the console, I'm leaning toward divine.

I don't hate it but it's not for me. I do really liike black and white or really black and off white or cream.
