Thanks again for all the comments & suggestions on reupholstering my dining room chairs. I have looked through lots of fabric sample books this week. 

I decided to select a tone on tone print in a darker neutral. The fabric will be treated to resist stains. I'm also hoping the darker color won't show spills as easily as the ivory color cushions I have now. My choice will go with just about any color when I repaint the walls in the future. It also will work with all my seasonal and holiday tablecloths & decorations. I also decided to have a professional upholsterer do the work.

I like it and it should be very practical.  Those gravey stains will look like leaves.

I think the subtle pattern will work out great and the color too.

I have a subtle stripe in the fabric of my chairs. And the first time I had a dinner with my new dining room set, 2 people spilled 'stuff" on their seats. Never could get the stains out of the seat cover. I think having a pattern would ease the pain of looking at the stains.
