I like the look of a stack of birch logs in the fireplace. Simple.

The bark is light and textured and lightens up the space.

I am not a nic nac person, so the tables thu out the house have a larger lamp on it or a grouping of mid to large sized decorative pieces.

I am definitely in that “decorate with odd numbers” group.

Happy decorating! 🙂

@Mominohio Your vignette looks beautiful.  I love that you've incorporated so many family treasures.  Besides my dad's glasses, I have one of his pipes sitting out.  I enjoy these personal touches like you do!

@BirkiLady  That's fabulous that you have the book on display too!  It sounds like you're my kind of decorator!  I love those personal touches dotted throughout the home.

Add me to the list of Shel Silverstein fans.  I used to buy his books for my daughter, nieces and nephews for their birthdays!  I still enjoy reading his poems!

edited to add:  Oh, I forgot about the old shaving supplies you have!  I don't have anything like that in my home, but I love to look at antique shaving items and often think of purchasing something like that to display.  It sounds like what you have is really nice!

@Citrine1

Old pipes are great for decorating! I love that you have one that means something!

I've been purging things for the last several months, and I've been asking myself, "if I had to downsize considerably, what kinds of things would make the cut".

My answer more and more are the old things I've had for many years or were handed down from previous generations, are at the top of the 'keep' list.

I've bought a lot of new decor in the last 5 years, and much of it was really curated to create a look and a cohesiveness that my older things don't have. I love it all, but if really pushed to choose, those old things would win more often than not.
