50 Things to Throw Away For Instant Decluttering

Saw this is Facebook - thought I would share with everyone as clutter is a common topic here. There are some good suggestions and may help those that have an issue with too much "stuff" and not sure how to get started decluttering.

@BunSnoopThanks for this list -  while there are some items I know I can't bear to use, many of them are good reminders.  I don't have much visible clutter, but my closets and cabinets and dressers are hiding my sins.  Time to cull.

Re: 50 Things to Throw Away For Instant Decluttering

The Minimalists have a ‘game’ called 30-Day Minimalism Game.

“This month, each of you must get rid of one thing on the first day.

On the second, two things. Three items on the third.

So forth, and so on. Anything can go!

Clothes, furniture, electronics, tools, decorations, etc.

Donate, sell, or trash. Whatever you do, each material possession

must be out of your house—and out of your life—by midnight each day.”

There’s a tag (below) on Instagram showing stuff people post each day.

It’s really inspiring.  Makes me start bagging stuff up.  Some people have been on multiple rounds, so ‘things’ are replaced with deleting computer files or old contacts in your address book.comtact list.

At the end of the day, it makes one more aware of what is brought into

your home.

This person has obviously never come up against a pack rat like my DH; I have to pry it out of his hot lil' hands or sneak it out to trash/recycle.

If I threw away clothes I haven't worn in six months, I'd pretty much throw out my winter clothes if I declutter in summer and my summer clothes if I declutter in winter... Moving on...

Re: 50 Things to Throw Away For Instant Decluttering

I think there are things on here that will speak to each of us differently.

I'm especially agreeing with any paper that isn't needed. Magazines, receipts, manuals, no longer needed paperwork. This kind of stuff really bogs down a lot of people because they keep a lot, and rarely purge it.

And I don't know what it is about worn out things, but sometimes I get on a real run and can't believe how many socks, underwear, odd clothing pieces, and linens that are so beyond their prime, and need thrown out or moved to the rag bag. They seem to come in waves, and purging those alone sometimes really frees up some space.

@steviebAnything you haven't worn in 3 months????  Ridiculous -  Today I wore a blouse I must have bought more than 5 years ago -  had to cut off the sales tag before I buttoned it down the front!

I know I have to donate or trash some things, but that 3-month idea was one rule I immediately planned to ignore.

@millieshops I've heard the '2 years rule' but even that wouldn't work for me... I pull stuff out of my closet I haven't worn in years, decide I like it again and then wear the heck out of it... I think we all probably have a discerning enough eye to know when something is never going to be worn again and those are the things we ought to get rid of...

Re: 50 Things to Throw Away For Instant Decluttering

I often just give it away to friends or family who wants whatever "it" is.

If no one wants "it" I donate it to charity.  Right now I'm about to donate a new 32" smart TV (but it's only 720 I accidentally bought at HSN) and a new printer/fax machine, etc. to a group who'll auction it off.  They do charity work for pitbulls who've been used for target practice.

So, perhaps instead of throwing things away, how about thinking maybe someone might be able to use it.
