It's not what I would, personally, choose but I think they look nice with the rest of this living room.

I typically love niches, but I guess I am used to seeing them with arched tops on staircase landings, rather than fully rectangular shapes. I would like the niches in your picture much better if they didn't have those strange light fixtures hanging inside them, but instead had a few more shelves for books or other objets d'art. I would also like the niches to have rounded tops like the arch over the entranceway to the room has.

I agree with everything you posted.

If it were a friend's room, I say, "very nice."  But for me, no thank you.  The  seating offered looks doesn't look comfortable to me. Spindly legs might not hold up under long use.  However, it would be easy to clean underneath.

I like them, and think they are nicely done!

They're nice, but on the right side, I'd add maybe a small art piece instead of the books. The vase is nice though.  I find the room to be calming.  Thanks for sharing.

It's all too modern for my taste, but they are well done for the rest of the room and furnishings.

Alison Martino (daughter of singer. Al Martino), who runs the Vintage LA Facebook page & is a journalist, posted a photo of her place with her kitty, Milo, last night.  I think she lives in a high-rise condo in West Hollywood.  I've never seen lighted niches like the ones she has.

Yes, I think they are nicely decorated. Our open floor plan kitchen has a large, high niche and honestly, I hate decorating it.  I try to do it seasonally because it requires my husband getting up on a letter.  I would not have designed the room that way.

Recessed lights are in right now. Not the canned ones though. I like the way they used them as overhead lights in the niches that @aubnwa01  posted.
