Re: Declutter 2026: What Have You Purged Today?

I didn't do a lot this weekend but I did go thru a couple more papers, filed, shredded and dumped the shredder again. I am making progress but it is so time consuming!

@rnmom I hear ya~ Papers (like sentimental items) ARE time consuming, as we have to read, think what's important, and in the sentimental case, it involves emotion too...so yes...just the nature of that beast...takes more time, so how you (and I) have been doing it is often best...little by little! Good luck!

Re: Declutter 2026: What Have You Purged Today?

The hutch is gone!

I cannot begin to tell you how heavy that thing is/was - solid oak with heavy leaded glass shelves.  Even taking it apart, it was difficult to maneuver.  Thankfully our son was over and helped DH move everything outside.  DH told the buyer to bring muscle.  He replied that his "kid" was coming with him.  We expected him to arrive in a pickup and with strong young man. Nope. He came in a small SUV and his "muscle" was a tiny young teen girl who could get blown over by a good gust of wind.  🤦‍♀️  Needless to say, there was no way everything would fit in his vehicle.  While he was figuring out his plan I told DH to get the payment before the guy started loading.  He soon realized he was in a pickle.  He had to make two trips.  DS helped him load the bottom part in and he took all the shelving on the first trip.  I have no idea how he was going to get it moved into his house.  He said he'd return in an hour for the top and that he'd being a trailer.  Well, an hour was hardly realistic but he made it back before DS went home and the men got the top part loaded.

What a relief to see it drive away!

I just finished peeling a vinyl wall quote off one of our walls.  The letters came off easily, no adhesive left behind on the wall.  👍

Re: Declutter 2026: What Have You Purged Today?

I typically post on here about my decluttering of my closet but today I want to give a shout out to DH.  He has been diligently working on decluttering our basement and garage.  He finally shredded documents we saved from my and his parents who died 10 years ago.  He sold some equipment he was not using and reorganized/cleaned part of the storage area of the garage.  He still has more to do but I am proud of what he has accomplished so far.

He has inspired me to clean our office.  I am sure we have many more documents to shred including manuals from appliances.  We either don't own the appliance any more or could get what information we need on line.  DD has used the desk in the office as a dumping ground so I will need her to remove her stuff.  Wish me luck in getting inspired.
