Did a quick try-on yesterday of a few things in upstairs clothing closet...all so far were keepers except one skirt...ME by Jennie Garth...the only item from 4 I've gotten from her line I just don't love each time I put it on. Wanted one of those "silk" skirts that have been so "in" the past few years, and Jennie's was a lace trimmed handkerchief style...champagne color. I wore it once last year for Christmas Eve lunch out. I only ever just feel kinda ok with it. Never really found or had a top I loved with it. Never really felt it flattered me....it kind of has too much material on each side too.

So...when I go to consignment in July, if she'll take that this season, pretty sure it's going. If I buy another it will be the slimmer type, like Quince and other vendors sell, like LillySilk, even Amazon, with straight bottom hem, like I origiinally wanted. Simpler, more flattering & classic on. This one will be pretty for someone taller, who can carry this better. I don't hate it off just never feel great with it on....and that IS the goal!

That was it for yesterday...one dang skirt. lol.

I agree with @rnmom no point dwelling on the waste, but you can do better going forward. Because two things on that...holding on to stuff, "not to waste it", but not using it anyway...is still "wasted" and a constant reminder of that. Once it's out you CAN move on and WILL do better! I get it, it can be hard to let go of things you feel you spent the money on, but if it's not being used anyway...still the "waste" is there....letting go you can let go of that guilt too and move on!! Also, it's hard to "get it right" on every cosmetic item...they don't all work out well. Good you're getting down to what you really like and will use, and maybe really be selective what you bring in now, if you can. If "cosmetics is your thing"...you can still try to really be selective going fwe, to buy just what you love and need at any given time. Just my two cents. Hope it helps.

@JeanLouiseFinch

Thank you!  Reading this post has given me the big push I needed to get rid of my beauty blunders too.  My long time hair stylist retired a couple of years ago and the new stylist I chose just never knew how to properly cut my very fine textured hair.

I was convinced my hair was thinning and bought many products to try to make it look better before finally realizing it was the new stylist and her hair cutting technique that was giving me problems.  Since she refused to cut my hair as I asked I quit going to her and in this last 18 months of growing out my hair I realize it is not thinning and all of these products are not necessary any longer.  Makes me sick as I wasted all that money on them.😩😩😩

Will be doing a ruthless purge in my bathroom tomorrow as Monday is trash day.  I need to move on and get rid of it all as my bathroom is way too cluttered and I hate looking at it all as it reminds me of many bad hair days.

Some old makeup items need to go too.  Products that just never really worked for me.

Re: Declutter 2026: What Have You Purged Today?

@4kitties - sometimes you just need to forge ahead and take the lesson that comes with it.  My DH has told me many times to forget what was spent, it's in the past and over with.  Do better now.  That's my goal.  I would have liked to box everything up and donate it to a women's shelter, but life is so busy right now, I just had to bite the bullet and dispose of it.  I feel like it was a big accomplishment.

Good luck liberating yourself from the excess!

Re: Declutter 2026: What Have You Purged Today?

@JeanLouiseFinch - I agree with you about the donations. If I can easily donate new items or minimally used items to a local woman's shelter I will, but usually unloved toiletries/beauty products/makeup will just get trashed.

I know that many women recommend donating to Project Beauty Share and I think that it's a great idea to donate rather than toss, but I cannot justify spending more money on the ridiculous shipping costs to dispose of my unwanted items. It's bad enough I lost all the money I spent on the items I cannot afford to pay to ship them off too.

Re: Declutter 2026: What Have You Purged Today?

I have gotten rid of just a few small things over here. I tossed a ratty dishrag. Tossed 4 of hubby's old planners and shredded a few more papers. Dumped the shredder.

I donated a dog collar from a small dog we used to have. I don't ever expect to get a 15 pound dog again. If for some reason we do, it will deserve it's own new collar. I finished a book and added it to my donate pile.

Hubby and I also watched one of the DVD's that we had saved from his dad after he passed. We've had them almost 2 years now. He says he has watched some of them but I haven't watched any of the few that I kept. So last night we decided to check one of them out. I won't know if I want to keep them if I don't watch them. It was only ok, I'm glad I watched it, but I won't watch it again. I am actually going to see if one of the ladies in my bible study wants to watch it.

Re: Declutter 2026: What Have You Purged Today?

My DH and I packed up an enormous set of Longaberger Christmas dishes, including a ridiculous amount of accessory pieces, serving ware, and bakeware.  All of the boxes are in the garage and will be delivered to the resale shop on Tuesday.  We have a buyer for our gorgeous hutch. They're coming this afternoon. I definitely want it gone but will probably miss it a little.  It's a beautiful piece of furniture but we no longer need it.

@JeanLouiseFinch - take a picture of the hutch and hold on to that.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?
