Re: Declutter 2026: What Have You Purged Today?

[ Edited ]

Hope my constant posts lately aren't too annoying...but keeps me motivated to list my accomplishments...which I know is why we're all here. So...I'm still "on a tear!"

This morning:

-1 old perfume sample size

Went through office storage cabinet (seasonal candles, small decor, light bulbs, electronic stuff.)

Tossing:

- an old broken music box decor item

- an old candle topper (I don't burn candles anymore) I use a melting lamp for fragrance

- some mfr boxes for small electronic items

- empty cd cases

Donating :

- 4 new in package light bulbs I'll never need

- An electric coffee cup warmer...I have a newer, better one

- 2 cds

- 2 box set (was my dads) of 8 "Word Power Vocabulary Builder" cassettes...put in the library book donation bag, they may laugh, so old school; but if they don't want them they can toss.

- box of battery operated tealights

Mind you NONE of this is helping me plan my desired updates yet, but I feel the need to "lighten up" first, in prep for that.

@amyb I actually love reading your detailed posts.

As for your Amish rocker that you're struggling with, I'd be tempted to part ways with it but it's not mine so no emotional attachment for me.

I haven't posted much lately because I haven't purged anything really remarkable so I feel like my posts can be boring. I still consistently part ways with things, either through consignment or Goodwill. My shopping bags for Goodwill are really small shopping bags now. Or like the larger Bath and Body Works paper bags. And I take the bag as soon as it's full. I'm down to 16 purses and I think that's about where I need to stay. However, I did order 2 pairs of Birkenstocks today-the struggle on those is real.  I take pairs to consignment and then I replace those with new cute ones. It is ridiculous.

But I'm really pleased with my efforts to keep a "lean" house. I just find it so freeing to live with less possessions, but that's just me.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

Re: Declutter 2026: What Have You Purged Today?

@Sheila Morelan - I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your husband. I can only imagine how difficult it is to go thru his belongings.

But I am glad that you have found us and I hope that you continue to post. Several of the ladies here have lost their spouses and I am sure they can help with some of the difficulties you will face.

Re: Declutter 2026: What Have You Purged Today?

One of our neighboring towns has their local Walleye festival this weekend and they have a HUGE community wide garage sale. This really starts the kick off of garage sale season here in my state and hubby and I always go.

We went out for a few hours yesterday and hubby found a couple of things, I found a couple of things (a couple of clothing items and a couple of kitchen items), and I picked up a couple of things for my son. I tried not to buy stuff just to buy it but it can be tempting sometimes. I've done really well not shopping much so far this year but I may be bringing a few things extra into the house rather than a lot leaving for the next couple of months.

My son asked if I had any ice cube trays and I do have a couple extra, so I set aside 2 to give to him and I tossed one that had cracked.

My brother in law was looking to buy some beetle bug bags and he had given me some a couple of years ago that I never used so I gave those back to him.

Other than that I really haven't done a lot of decluttering.

Hubby has been working outside a bit burning some old trash and brush so I guess that counts to help clean up the outside.

Tuesday I purged my husbands home office. I've had a hard time even thinking about it since his sudden death. I was so proud of myself for conquering that very sad chore. I still have his closet, bathroom, and shop. These will be purged in time. Someone recommended a garage sale but I am not fond of them. Having strangers rummaging through his things, well, no thank you. I wonder if I will ever stop missing him.

I am so sorry for your loss.💔

Take your time with his possessions.  You will know when you're ready to part with them.  And if you're never ready, that's ok too.  No one says you have to get rid of anything.

You will learn to live without him, but no, you will never stop missing him.🩷

I picked up one top from a garage sale this past weekend and I found one top to donate in it's place.

Re: Declutter 2026: What Have You Purged Today?

Did alot on Saturday--finally organized my huge bathroom--everything has a place now, altho that needs to be tweaked. And then DD finally dove head first into her room and all of a sudden--there are sooo many empty boxes in the living area-----AGAIN!!!! I get that space  nearly cleared up and  it looks like box-trolls have moved in !!! Also brought in more stuff from the balcony to be stored so that adds to the chaos---got a few boxes of donation going today. Will this moving thing EVER end????

Re: Declutter 2026: What Have You Purged Today?

Ok Ladies, you are NOT gonna believe this...

Remember that closet that DH has that is chock full of clothes that he hasn't worn in years?

Well, a couple of days ago, I noticed he was hauling garbage bags of "stuff" downstairs and into the trunk of his car.

Didn't want to stop and inquire, but I snuck upstairs and peeped into that closet, and VOILA - He had done a huge purge!

I didn't say anything, because I had been bugging him about it for months, so I'll just wait for him to let me know what he did. Smiley Wink

Re: Declutter 2026: What Have You Purged Today?

[ Edited ]

Tried on some summer things today...purged 3 dresses, two for donation, tossed one that was worn out.

1 dress is a "one in/one out", replaced an old basic black dress bought on vacation years ago, with a nicer basic black sundress from Quince.

My first time trying Quince, though they've been on my radar to do so...impressed with nice items for decent prices, and free returns (up to 365 days) too. Good place for simple basics, cashmere sweaters, linen pants.

I also got a pretty, summer sleeveless cotton knit sweater top, substantial look & weight, classic to go with jeans, summer pants and shorts. Only $34, nice top. Wanted something like this to go with some LOFT classic twill shorts I got last year.

Only had an hour to spare for decluttering today...will be going through more wardrobe, though I really feel I've gotten down to my keepers, yet, almost every time I do a try-on, I find I feel differently about some things...we'll see.

I set aside one dress today to still keep, I think I may let go after all.

Update on the Amish rocker...well folks, I really thought I was done with it....then I set it in my living room, didn't hate it, (though if I had a different place it'd be elsewhere...as it's ok in the living room, but not the actual vibe of the overall look...it mixes in fine, but wouldn't be my intentional type style to put there...but it's fine, for now.)

Here's why....I did some Googling...these exact chairs are still being sold out there, brand new, from various sources...not like on Ebay people getting rid of them.

They range from lowest $350 to more commonly $460 up to over $700. I'm not giving mine away. I've decided to give the wood a refresh...either restain if needed or just a wood "refresher" product to bring it to life...I'll ask what's best at my hardware store. I also have been sitting in it reading in my living room, and enjoying it...something I just never did in the bedroom.

If I tire of it in the living room, I can put it up in my office or I decided it is worth my storing to sell it down the line....I don't want to give it away.

I'm fine with this decision for now...actually I'd say I'm happy, as I've been enjoying using it.
