Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

I am sure it is bittersweet when one of your kids is the first to "fly the nest". It is a milestone for both of you.

The sweet part of this will be your house becoming "lighter" with all the things your son will be taking when he moves out. And even sweeter will be you and your husband getting closer and closer to your goals.💕

Are you trying to make us feel bad?😀 You just don't stop. I really admire your ambition!

Just a thought about your mom's photo albums...

When going through my mom's albums, we set aside a lot of pictures of relatives and sent them to our cousins. We were so inundated handling an estate with the death of both my parents (so close together) and we didn't have any guilt like we probably would have by tossing them.

@magicmoodz Lol...I don't feel like I'm going gangbusters, but I do post a lot! I just keep up a little each week, and posting here helps me feel accomplished & stay motivated.

My home is not cluttered on the "outside", I just have a relatively small home/condo, with limited practical storage, so I'm always trying to dig out the "stored" things...of which a lot seems to be either seasonal decor (under control and organized but still a lot! Also, always in flux, each season!) and sentimental items. So, I'm always trying to pick away at that stuff....that and keeping wardrobe updated.

As for the pics...I'm an only child, with a "disappearing family" by about half at this point...so the pics are cherished by me, and important history, to me. When I'm gone, I have one of my cousins, I'm closest to, who may want some pics, but otherwise these will mean nothing to anyone else, which doesn't bother me, once I leave the planet! I actually had fun looking at some the other day.

My mom didn't have any bulky albums, but back in the day, people had these little spiral notebooks, like 3"x3" you flip through...she had a bunch of these, and loose photos...they all live in a small box I have, and also she had some loose in a plastic bag I have in her trunk, with some bigger portrait sized photos of her and my dad and grandparents as children, and some baby photos of them and me.

I do have a project in my head, I have not taken time to do yet, and these days is relatively easy, with the resources we have online...

I did start to gather pics to make some digital albums for 4 of my cousins, who have expressed wanting some pics in the past when I shared them online...of photos their parents and our shared grandparents are in. I think I will get to that eventually! I keep reminding myself (I'm a perfectionist), that it doesn't have to be perfect...I don't have to go through & gather EVERY photo, before doing one of these, even the pics I've collected thus far, (kept in my Google photos) would probably make them happy.

My son is planning on moving out with his girlfriend in the not too distant future. Maybe within the next month or two? We're not sure on the exact timeline. I wasn't expecting that for at least another year or so, so I was surprised.

A lot of stuff will be moving out with him when he goes if he wants it. That will be a big change. Definitely mixed feelings.

Oh my gosh.  I can't believe either of your sons is that old yet!  Time sure flies.

Mixed feelings for sure. 💕

I feel like I am going backward!  After my gigantic purging of the last couple years where everything (except clothes) are at a stage I am comfortable with, I  ordered 5 pair of shoes this week.  My reasoning (excuse) is that I disposed of so many, I am out of comfortable shoes that go with my current feet, balance and fit issues.

I have put myself on my version of a "No Buy" program this year, and knowing myself, I do know it is not possible for me to not buy anything at all, so I will consider these 5 shoes as my allowable purchases for March.  Maybe they will not all fit and will be returns.

I bought nothing in January but February new spring clothes got me again and I purchased 4 pants and 3 tops. Oh Well, if not for my Not Buy mantra going through my head, I would have been worse.

But, I did purge in February 2 tops, 4 pants, 5 sweaters, 4 jackets and 3 vests, so I guess I can at least say I purged more than I brought in for February.  I will take any win I can get.

@geezerette - I know! He's 19, will be 20 in July. I obviously knew it was coming in the next year or two but I thought he would at least finish community college first and that won't be for another whole year yet. So I was just surprised that it is happening now.

It's not an absolutely done deal yet, but if everything works out it will be. We should know in the next few weeks.

Hi all, and Happy Daylight Savings Sunday 🌞 😎

The photos saga continues...

Yesterday spent 30 min. reorganizing that mess upstairs from the picture purge the other day...and also purged more pictures and negatives.

Organized each small picture box and put the 4 of them, into a smallish Periea box I had two of, unused from a recent set I bought, waiting for my "next need" for them.

This helped contain this set of boxes of pics, as I'd had them in an open top wicker basket/box in my upstairs closet before, and the boxes stood above the top of that small box and always slid off etc. So better stored/contained in that closet. Is there more I can purge down the line..perhaps. I'm totally random in what negatives I get rid of what I keep. They really need to all go...if I ever lost the pics would I go try to find a camera shop and reprint these pics? NO! So who knows my rhyme and reason sometimes....but I've let go of most of my negatives these past few years.

I have way too many sentimental boxes of old letters/cards etc from different "eras" of life...can't seem to let them go for whatever reason. I guess I like visuals of "my history." Which is silly really, but whatever...at some point I may feel differently....for now...they're a few extra small shoeboxes up there.

So you see...those are truly my issues...as my home, as I've said a bunch of times, is very organized and decluttered, as well as my clothing, which I have lots of because I love fashion, but all neat and constantly updating and purging. Other than my seasonal decor, it's my dang sentimentality and sense of liking actual, visual, tactile historical things in keeping that take up probably too much storage. But I'm not over-run with it, so for now it stays. We all have "our things" I guess.

Oh yes, and threw out a baseball cap I no longer will wear. Have way too many of these too, but after going thru collection yesterday (some live in my car) have about 12, I'm keeping the rest. I wear & rotate them...usually while out for exercise walks or occasionally out at the beach.

Finally dropped off those few Goodwill items.

Did a food donation dropoff too, which had been in the trunk of my car a few wks.

Have a great day all!

Wow.  I remember when both of them weren't even teenagers.  Man, we've been posting a long time!😄

You can't keep them from growing up and think you're ready for them to leave the nest (more than ready sometimes!😉), but when the time actually comes it can be bittersweet.

If and when the time comes, I'm sure he'll be just fine.  After all, you raised him!💞

@geezerette - Aw, thanks! I know I've been saying for a while now that I'm ready for the boys to move on and leave the nest but now that it's actually turning into a reality (at least for one, the other is still only a junior) I'm more emotional than I thought I would be. I didn't think it would be this hard and he hasn't even left yet. I know I will get used to it obviously, but it will be an adjustment for sure.

@KathyM23    Ha, I've been on a beauty no buy for quite a while.  I am making progress, but bought three items since January.  Hey, being honest at least.  A wen lip and hair mask combo (stuck in preparing your order, so I don't know 100% that I will get it)  And caved yesterday on a LG lip oil set, and a Dr Denese tinted day cream (I was out) from eBay.  I do have to say, it's curtailed many purchases at least.  I have enough fragrance and shower gel for at least 12-18 months!

I hope you enjoy your new comfy shoes!  I know you love your fashions!  I think this decluttering thread at least keeps me motivated and inspired.  I enjoy reading others progress.
