Re: Declutter 2020: What have you purged today?

@AuntG - This declutter thread has been going on for several years now and I plan to start a new one in 2021, so please come back and post your progress for us!

Re: Declutter 2020: What have you purged today?

Hubby tossed an old ratty pair of work pants that were stained and had holes in them.

I had to toss a dog bed that the dog peed on and I couldn't clean. We kept it in the crate that she sleeps in and I didn't want to invest in a new one right now, so I found two old bed pillows and put pillowcases on them and she can lay on those for right now.

I actually just bought two new bed pillows and my younger son asked if he should toss the two old ones.  I told him no, we'd keep them as back ups just in case. I didn't think we'd be using the this soon, but I'm glad it worked out that way.

@AuntG I like the idea of going through one room at a time.  That might be a good way for me to break down the task of purging.  Sometimes it's overwhelming to me.

@Snoopp - a room at a time is the way to go.  Don't flit around. You feel no sense of accomplishment that way.  start a room and take however long it takes and then the room will be done and you'll feel great about it.

I feel like if you flit, you don't really feel or see the progress.

Re: Declutter 2020: What have you purged today?

Merry Christmas fellow purgers!

I hope those of you who celebrate are enjoying a beautiful, uncluttered home this holiday.

I will be celebrating with my family on Sunday, which allowed me to have the most peaceful, relaxing Christmas ever.

This week I have mostly been feeding the recycling bin. Pickup is tomorrow. DS is planning to move in February so he will take some of the many boxes home that are presently collected in my garage, waiting to see if any of the gifts I purchased need to be returned.

Also reclaimed my kitchen yesterday after being used as a Christmas cookie factory for the last 10 days or so.

Two returns boxed up for the post office- probably on Monday/

Re: Declutter 2020: What have you purged today?

[ Edited ]

This morning, soon after they opened, I took some things to Goodwill.

A vaccum cleaner that works fine, but it's a big clunker cleaner and I didn't like it.  We kept it downstairs.  Upstairs we have a Shark Navigator.  To be honest, I don't like it either, but it's easier to use.  So it gets to stay.

I also took a shopping bag about 2/3 full with miscellaneous stuff, including a few Christmas gifts that I just didn't care for, wouldn't use and couldn't return.  Nothing from family and things I really could not consign.

On the 23rd, I took 2 pairs of shoes to consignment and a few other small things. I picked up a good sized check from them while I was there.

I continue to downsize, anticipating a move, hopefully before June.  They've broken ground on the complex I want to move to, but it's nowhere near ready for anyone to come and look at lots. It's all still just dirt.

My next decluttering focus is to continue on the "setty around stuff" and framed pictures and prints, whether on the wall or framed pictures sitting on something.  I think I'm just about done on the wall stuff, but I continually wander through the house and just glance at things and try to envision them in a new house.

Re: Declutter 2020: What have you purged today?

My older son has been staying in a spare bedroom in our basement and we are moving him back to his old room upstairs, so it is a good opportunity for us to go thru everything. When we moved him down there last year he just grabbed everything and took it down there without really sorting. Well, if we're going to all the work of dragging it back upstairs, we're sorting it out this time.

Not a lot is actually leaving but a few things are. So far added to donate: a pair of wrestling shoes and a pair of water socks/shoes that he's outgrown. A too small pair of socks and a spirograph drawing set.

We tossed:a ratty t-shirt and pair of jeans, 2 pair of earbuds, assorted papers, a cardboard box, a plastic container and some odds and ends.

We're almost done, I'm hoping to finish the rest of it today. Then we have to decide what to do with the room downstairs. The closet would be an excellent space for hubby to store all of his hunting stuff or my Christmas stuff.

Re: Declutter 2020: What have you purged today?

We spent some more time working on finishing up my son's room yesterday. I think that everything that he wants to keep is now back upstairs, I just need to make a final pass thru his old room and make sure. I just ran out of steam yesterday.

Nothing big left the house but a few more little things did. The only thing that got added to donate from his stuff was a toy hatchet. Most of it was broken stuff that went to trash including: an eyeglass case, a belt, a karate belt from his band class, a 2020 planner, broken clock, 2 broken watches, 2 more pair of earbuds, some Pokemon cards and a tin carrying case, an old tablet charger, a poster, and a few other odds and ends.

I also tossed a ripped bandana and recycled 2 calendars from other areas of the house.

I was putting away a few Christmas gifts too and I got replacements for a couple of kitchen items so I did set aside to donate from the kitchen: a saucepan, a muffin pan and a chopper.

Back to work today so I probably won't get a lot done until this weekend again. I'm hoping to get the basement spare bedroom vacuumed and re-organized a bit and then we can decide what we want to store in it if anything.

Re: Declutter 2020: What have you purged today?

Today I was rummaging around in a drawer in my china cabinet, lol, and came out with at least a dozen each of votive and tealight candles. I simply don't use those and never will. Also, some napkin rings (might as well face the fact that I no longer entertain in any fashion that napkin rings come into play). All this is now downstairs waiting for my next run past the donations center.
I'm positive I will find more stuff, lol. It's just never really over, is it?

Re: Declutter 2020: What have you purged today?

We sold a home that we have lived in for 22 years. Talk about stress during the pandemic!! We moved ourselves from Texas to Utah. GOT RID OF A LOT OF STUFF!! But on the bright side, got to buy a lot of new stuff!!  Plus since we have moved into our home, I am still purging...

@Snicks1 - No, it never really is over. It definitely slows down, but it's never over.

We got my son's room all finished and he's settled back in upstairs. The spare room in the basement was vacuumed and we're trying to decide what all to put back in there. I think my hubby wants to store his hunting supplies in the closet, which is fine with me, it will free up some space for me in our general storage area.

I tossed one more broken phone charger and put our last calendar into the recycle bin yesterday. At least the move gave me a chance to go thru his room and get rid of the broken items.
