Re: Declutter 2020: What have you purged today?

[ Edited ]

Great job Mr. Redtop! Sometimes a person just feels like tossing things out. We're supposed to have a heat index of 100 this weekend so I decided it was time to rid myself of ten very old Quacker Factory sweaters. Tossed them - if I donated them, they'd probably end up at an ugly sweater party!

Re: Declutter 2020: What have you purged today?

Tuesday gave 2 bags of clothes to Cancer Foundation.

Today threw out 2 small hand held vacuums that did not work.  I bought a new one about 1 year ago, why was I keeping 2 that did not work so long?  Don't know, but enough is enough, today they are gone.

Feeling good!!!

Re: Declutter 2020: What have you purged today?

Another thing for today.....I'm on a roll!

Received an ugly tote bag as a free gift for renewing my subscription to TV Guide.  I have so many tote bags, even though this one was new - it was big and ugly, I just threw it out.

P.S.  Did not tell my hubby, he would say "give it to me", and would take it outside to the garage.  It would sit for years unused with all the other stuff I have "given to him".

Re: Declutter 2020: What have you purged today?

Out of the house today:

A return to QVC. As I am indoors for the most part and out of the heat, I purged the contents of the large LR ottoman as well as my bill basket. Both were probably done during the big annual January purge, so they were not bad, but there were papers that are now in the recycling bin where they belong.

Re: Declutter 2020: What have you purged today?

I have been in my apartment over 4 years, and each year's financial records are stowed in a cupboard in junky piles, tied with string.  I know half of it can be tossed.  I now have a box of pocket folders and a bag of giant rubber bands....this weekend I am tackling each year's bundle and paring it down into organized folders.

it will be rainy and in the 90s all weekend, so I won't be tempted to leave the air conditioning!

My recycling place is no longer taking in anything other than cardboard. They employ handicapped individuals and they stated that without subsidies they could not stay afloat anyway, and now with the covid19, it was unsafe for their employees who are all either physically or mentally handicapped, so were no longer accepting recyclable. I totally understand. But, left with hordes of items from the middle of March, and nowhere to recycle had me stumped. Through another poster on FB I learned that a city an hour away would take them, even if not a resident of that city. Well, I'm not driving a total of 2 hours, even bi-weekly to take stuff in, but it turned out that I needed to take my brother to that city for his yearly cancer checkup, sooo, of course, I loaded up my trunk and backseat and got rid of all my backload, lol. Sadly, now i will just have to put things in the regular trash. Now, to find a place that accepts donations. Both my regular place and Goodwill drop box are closed for now. I have 3 boxes of things to donate. This complicates matters and I'm sure will slow down any purging here, for the time being.

After at least 5 years of saying he was going to do it, my husband is decluttering the garage today! He filled his entire truck bed, and took the load to the landfill. Now he is pressure washing. He also has a burnable pile that will be gone after 5:00 today. Getting this done is a HUGE accomplishment for him!

@RedTop - How awesome for you!

Re: Declutter 2020: What have you purged today?

I've added a few small things to the donate bag this past week:

3 pair of socks from my younger son, along with a pair of shorts

pair of sandals from my older son

a t-ball bat

I also took some time yesterday to work on some filing that has been piling up for a couple of months. In doing that I also did some shredding. Filled the shredder and dumped it.

Re: Declutter 2020: What have you purged today?

Does anyone besides me become "clutter blind"?  Part of my basement is unfinished and is like a workshop - tools, paint cans, etc.  You get the picture.  This stuff has been there for 30 years.   Yesterday I moved a bookshelf  that had jars and coffee cans of nails, screws, and misc hardware to make room for a water treatment system I'm installing.  Occasionally I do have the need for a nail or screw, but not in the quantities I have.  I gathered them all up and took them to an animal charity thrift store.  Luckily it's only me when making these decisions.

Re: Declutter 2020: What have you purged today?

Cleaned out my Mom's garage. Took a few visits to finish. Tons of things

no longer needed. Multiple ice scrapers, containers of screws, nails,

hammers, cardboard, ladders, empty boxes, tools that I don't even

know what they are used for and so much more.

Been bothering me for a while so I took some time to get it done even

though I have lots more cleaning to do at my own place. Then I hauled

as much as I could home to get rid of so it does not sit piled up at her

place.

Looks alot better now. Still some stuff she wanted to keep but without

all the extra unnecessary stuff, I feel alot better.
