Re: Declutter 2020: What have you purged today?

I can't believe I had 3 big bags of donations to give away. My thrift store opened and I was able to take them there a few days ago. I'm amazed because I declutter and throw away all the time, I didn't think I had that much left to donate. Was I wrong!

The good thing is that I have several empty drawers in various cabinets around my house.

Re: Declutter 2020: What have you purged today?

It's been a while since I've visited this thread.

In May I discarded an older rusty card table that I kept in the garage addition.  I also discarded an wood table that used to be inside the house (years ago) that was moved into the garage.  The pole saw that I laid across that old wood table leaked oil so that table went, as did the pole saw (I broke it).  I'm trying to remember what else I threw out in May.  Some odds and ends like damaged scraps of wood trim, a metal thing that I swear was a turn of the century hand snake (by century I mean early 1900's, lol) two old snow shovels that were messed up.

I think DH has every shovel he's ever bought.

He's a builder, so we have a lifetime supply!

Every time I try to get rid of one, he stops me.  He even replaces handles.  Sigh.

@Witchy Woman I don't dare touch my SO's stuff in the garage. The thing that bothers me is that he doesn't take very good care of his tools (such as keeping them from rusting). Woman Frustrated

Re: Declutter 2020: What have you purged today?

I don't think I've ever had a "good" blanket on my bed....always an inexpensive one, that got "holey" or pilled.  I bought a really nice heavy cotton blanket from The Company Store (it was on sale...still expensive to me!).

I tossed my old Berkshire blanket, that was really pilled and left lint on my flannel sheets in the winter.

I agree.  I never touch DH stuff in the garage.  He has double and triple everything, but, in all fairness, he is working all the time.

Since he depends on his tools, he does take care of them, but they get hard use all the time.

However, I get dizzy when surveying his "stuff" because it is stacked to the ceiling, which is probably 30 feet high.

I try not to go out there or worry about it.   In m world, it would all be neatly organized.  He tells me "I know where everything is."

@Witchy Woman   My husband, God rest him, was a self described 'collector'.  He passed away just after New Year 2007 and I waited until 2018 to begin the purge.  I honored his memory for over a decade and then that shiiii   uh  stuff had to come out of the rafters and off the shelves.  Would you believe I still have a couple of boxes to go through?

Re: Declutter 2020: What have you purged today?

I was accumulating cardboard boxes in my basement to use for donations to goodwill.  Since my purging has slowed down, I am tired of looking at them.  Luckily, someone on Nextdoor posted that they need boxes for moving.  Hopefully they will come pick them up tomorrow!

No disrespect to your late husband, but your post had me laughing.

While I'm terribly sorry for your loss, I can understand the burden of trying to get rid of things.

I've told my husband I'm giving first dibs to his best friend and his two sons.

Then, I'm bringing in someone to remove it all, auction off what they can, and not stop until they are down to the last scrap.

He just laughs at me.  This is why I don't want to keep so much stuff...so he doesn't have to worry about getting rid of it!

However, we both have a lot, and, after I'm gone, I just can't worry about it! Cat LOL

Re: Declutter 2020: What have you purged today?

I stopped at Goodwill yesterday and dropped off two shopping bags filled with stuff and a medium sized sterilite container that I had used in my car to hold reusable bags.  Got rid of some of the bags and was able to get rid of the container.

Then, for the first time since they reopened, I stopped very briefly at the consignment store and dropped off a bunch of stuff. And I'm glad I did because the owner told me they are closed this week for some remodeling. So I was glad to get my things out of the house. I only stayed in there long enough to drop off my things.  I still don't feel comfortable shopping "just for fun".

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?
