@Oznell wrote:Good points, @stevieb , I agree with them. I did find the house a little 'overdone' in some aspects, although I admire the skill and some of the handsome effects he achieved. That designer's "glossiness" I thought was somewhat tempered by his disciplined color schemes.
And agree-- I wonder why the redesigned architecture of the exterior wasn't more felicitous?
I'm always curious about the choices that designers make for themselves...
@Oznell I'll explain that! $$$$$$$! They have things they love, things they have acquired, things they can work in and re-purpose, and a budget. More of a budget than a lot of their clients!

Loved the idea of a curved, terraced patio that echoes the bowing of the house.

There are some aspects I like and some I don't. One thing that bothers me is the exterior entrance which was made to look grand. The problem is that it's not centered, so it looks like an odd grand entrance.
I like most of the interior architecture, but there some furnishings I don't care for at all (as well as others I like a lot.)

Thanks again, @Oznell, for showing us what is there in the world of design.
I love this! I've always had a soft spot for black and white entry floors. While it's not something that would work in my home (or probably not many of our own homes) I love seeing it used where it actually fits.
Love all the detail in the woodwork, too.
You could practice your tap dancing right there. I wonder if anyone does that in this home?
And I love that postcard rack. I used to collect postcards but never thought of using a display like that. How clever.
I also especially love that curved wall of French windows. Not to mention, you are so right about how dark it must have been in the "before." The "after" gives me an English feel, like many of the larger homes I see in British television series. They aren't all that pretty, but do have a distinct feel.

Thanks, @Mimi 1883 , and a very happy Easter to you as well! As to other pictures, since you like classic looks, not modern, have you checked out a couple of others I put up here, one called "Nina Griscom's Elegant New York Apartment", and another called "Irish House"? If you plug those titles into the Q forum search engine above, they'll pop up. Also look for the posts of others, like @stevieb and @jubilant , for two examples, since they post traditional looks as well..
Hi, @sligo , I'm not @stevieb , but I have a few ideas for you. Since you like this house's colors, and they are quite neutral shades, why don't I mention a few good neutrals that you can investigate, if you like. They're all Benjamin Moore.
Like I said, I don't know the olive in this house, but maybe "Tate Olive" would be similar? I've had good luck with B. Moore Historical colors. I think their "Camouflage" would be a good, lighter sagey green, that's quite popular with designers.
If you're leaning more to the greige, taupe spectrum, here are a few -- "Revere Pewter", and lighter versions, "Edgecomb Gray" and "Baby Fawn". There's "Muslin" and Balboa Mist". And in the more tan/sandy direction, "Grant Beige" and "Manchester Tan".
Good luck! If you decide you want color suggestions, instead of these more neutral shades, give a shout!

Ha, ha, @Sooner , your surmise about designers definitely has the ring of truth!
@vsm-- Me too!
Sharp-eyed @faeriemoon , yeah, "Cote de Texas" also mentioned that lack of centredness and symmetry in her presentation of the house. I too wonder, why an architect wouldn't have corrected that? Easily done. A mystery.
@GingerPeach, isn't there something so romantic about a black and white floor. I always think of Fred and Ginger spinning in an Art Deco dream fantasy over a beautiful, polished to a fare-thee-well, floor like that.....

@sligo wrote:@stevieb , just moved into our home in Al. Can you help with colours rooms are pained. When I chose a sampleolive it had to much olive tonr. Also same with taupe. Do not like yellow. LOVE colors in this house. Can you help? Always use Ben. Moore. HAPPY EASTER. Hopefully the Easter Bunny left you the best !!!
@sligo And a Happy Easter to you as well. I'm afraid the Easter Bunny is taking the year off this year at my house, though he did leave two small treats several weeks ago... As for paint colors, it's such an individual thing... I've used a light taupe in two bathrooms and while I liked it for those rooms, it's so light as to appear almost a grey-white-taupe and so I'm not going to recommend it... I will recommend a Sherwin Williams color called Doeskin, which while not an actual taupe is a beautiful taupe-beige with some rosy hints that seems to shift color in varying light... I love this color...It's Sherwin Williams SW 6044... I've had trouble finding a true taupe that isn't either too brown or too grey, so wish you good luck with that... As for green, which is my favorite color; while not a true olive, which I imagine would be a bit of a challenge to work with, I've had very good luck with an old Duron color (now Sherwin William SW 0042) called Ruskin Room green... It was created as a 'historical' color and reads sort of as a mix of olive and sage... I never tire of it and it's more neutral than one might think.... Please note that neither sample pictured below is really precisely 'true' to the color when seen in person, but will give you a basic idea... Good luck...

I like the updated look of the exterior .....
Some rooms are very nice, but I dont care for like the black/white checkered floors and not fond of the dinning room especially those curtains and the drapery hanging and some of the furniture and other decor elements in that room.....

very very nice home, the back view is spectacular! A lot of the furnishings are not my style or taste, but for the most part I really like this home! A bit overdone in some areas, but overall a really nice home!
