I don't are for any of the designs pictured, maybe if it was something I liked I wouldn'tmind having it in my kitchen or hallway.

I prefer a rug. However, some of the painted patterns are very pretty.

Re: Custom Painted Floor Cloths

I almost had one made to go under my kitchen table about ten years ago.  I had a wonderful artist painting a cedar chest of mine, and she said she did floor cloths, too.  She drew a sketch for me, and I found it the other day when I was going through some things.  I'm not sure why I decided against doing it.

They are just OK for me in a house that they fit perfectly in decor wise.

I think they are pretty and given the right room and style might look great. I don't think that I would have them in my home..

I love the one in the first picture.  The others not so much.

Re: Custom Painted Floor Cloths

Floor cloths are painted on canvas, then protected by layers of varnish.  They originated as a way of repurposing sail canvas when discarded from sailing ships way back when.  I have seen a few large ones, but think they are cold-

looking.  I would prefer smaller ones.  These cloths were a product of inventive people who “repurposed” old material to create decorative floor coverings they could not afford.

The same thing can be said for stenciled walls.  A way of creating the look of wallpaper.  As a fan of Early American arts and crafts, I have done some in my home and love the effect.
