I saw this bed frame and went to look at the designer, and there is a lot of variety in bedframes.  I'll post a selection.

Would you consider a custom bed frame, even if it didn't have any "companion" furniture pieces available?

Depending on price and how much I loved it: yes.

I decided to buy a new bed frame when I moved in 2018. Did not have anything in mind. Saw one I loved that included under bed storage drawers. Loved everything about it and still do.

No companion pieces available. I reused furniture I already owned and added a 2 drawer night stand.

I do not think bedroom suites of furniture are the prevailing style at the moment.

I would if I liked the bed frame.  Some of these I really liked, some were OK and some I didn't care for at all.
