Re: Colorful Two Story Library...

The room itself is beautiful.  However, the rug and furniture not.  I would replace it all.  I am not a fan of that staircase either and would go back to the drawing board for options.

Re: Colorful Two Story Library...

I think the colors of that rug are too bright.  I would need to have already drunk two cups of strong coffee and gotten my eyes adjusted to the light every morning, prior to walking into that room, so the carpet wouldn't be a shock to my senses.

It is odd to me that the upstairs, built-in, "library" area seems to have deliberate areas of color coordinated books, and that it is upstairs like that, seemingly walled off and not easily accessible except by those winding stairs. I guess you can only take down one book at a time?  Imagine grabbing a pile of four or more books and trying to go back downstairs with them down that spiral staircase to read them.  That would be silly and dangerous.  Form does not seem to follow function in this room/library; function follows design in this case.

I do like the architectural moulding on the walls and ceilings, however.

Have to say, coming down those stairs wouldn't much intimidate me, but I'd not want to have to climb up them on a regular basis. I wonder if there isn't another way to access this space when one is already on an upper floor...

I can't really see this as a "library" since there are so few books! It's hard to determine what that first floor can be used for - maybe just a conversational space! It's a strangely decorated area for sure!

The room is interesting that staircase reminds me of an old movie I saw, forget the name of the film..I like the bones of the room, but the furniture is too modern of a style for me....
