I think the colors of that rug are too bright. I would need to have already drunk two cups of strong coffee and gotten my eyes adjusted to the light every morning, prior to walking into that room, so the carpet wouldn't be a shock to my senses.
It is odd to me that the upstairs, built-in, "library" area seems to have deliberate areas of color coordinated books, and that it is upstairs like that, seemingly walled off and not easily accessible except by those winding stairs. I guess you can only take down one book at a time? Imagine grabbing a pile of four or more books and trying to go back downstairs with them down that spiral staircase to read them. That would be silly and dangerous. Form does not seem to follow function in this room/library; function follows design in this case.
I do like the architectural moulding on the walls and ceilings, however.
