Cleaning laminate floor- Can a broom be used and suggestions needed?

Pergo XP laminate finally installed. Problem- floor prep and sanding has left a really thick dust. I was afraid to use a regular broom. I tried to clean with a Swiffer type dry mop but floor still looks dirty and I changed the dry mop several times. I understand that with regular cleaning the dry mop would be great and a wet mop used wth a spray bottle would be the best products. I am also doing research for the best 24 inch dry/ wet mop. Vacuum with the soft brush attachment.   I live in a VERY dusty climate.

@Desertdi- I was afraid that the rollers on the vacuum would scratch the floor. I tried to research the previous topics because I thought someone had suggested a special broom. I know the installer stressed no regular wet mopping, no steam cleaner and no wet Swiffer type products. I appreciate your help. Southern Bee

@SouthernBee   You would have to use a chisle to scratch Pergo (or similar brands, of flooring.)     That was the "selling point" for me.  di

@Desertdi- I am just nervous. The new room will be a bigger family room for entertaining. I wanted something different but easy to clean. DH was totally for carpet only but saying he prefers mopping to deep clean any other type floors. He looks at the floor and shaking his head and saying: Big expensive mistake and will be difficult to clean. I have allergies and so tired of carpet. @SouthernBee    I have a kitty that drags litter around......gets stuck in her paws.    It was impossible to get up with a vac.  Had to go over and over it.     Also, with the carpet, I had to go over the carpet on my hands and knees with a wet rag to get the cat HAIR up.     I think you will find the Pergo a breeze in comparison to carpet.   Just make sure you get any WET spills up right away.   If it gets into the joints, it "can" cause warping.     I've had it in the whole house for about 4 years, and would NEVER go back!  di

I have had laminate for many years and you only have to worry about liquids sitting on it for a while.  They do not scratch easily if at all.  I have three little dogs and I sweep and use a dry swiffer to pick up dog hair.  I have also vacuumed.   You want to be careful about the cleaner you use as it will leave a residue and dull floors.  The best I have found is Orange glo everyday wood floor cleaner.  I just spray and wipe up with a microfiber mop.

SO EASY TO KEEP CLEAN.  You can absolutely vacuum.  Laminate wears like iron, which is why my entire first floor is laminate (except for the powder room) for the past 19 years!   I have a dust mop with washable pads and I spray BONA for LAMINATE floors and clean that way.  It's so simple.  I love my laminate and am thinking of putting it in some of my upstairs rooms as well.  I HATE carpet ...  much prefer an area rug when needed.   ENJOY YOUR FLOOR....  don't be afraid of it.

I vacuum my laminate all the time.  HOwever I use the suction only mode and turn the beater bar off.

I have a canister vacuum so wheels are not an issue as with an upright.  Just the vacuum head at the end of the hose.  I can understand why you are nervous.  Maybe you can borrow a canister vac from someone for your maiden cleanup voyage and then follow advice given here about maintaining the floors long term?
