I just pulled out the electric drill so I could remove the ridiculously large number of screws attaching the dog gate to the wall.

That gate served me really, really well over the last, it must have been 20 years, since I got my first dog.

Now I have a fancy, foldable, portable wood one that is not foolproof, since my dog already knows she can push it aside but it'll do until the move.  If need be, I can put something heavier on one side that will prevent any pushing.

Anyway, removing those darn screws consisted of bending down really low and manipulating tools like I haven't done for a long while.

Time for a tea break!  (I think I need this cup.  Three of my favorite things.)

@GingerPeach

I don’t know why you are moving, but I do know you love your home and that is SO hard.

Wishing all happiness, peace, tranquility, and joy in your new home.  Home is my favorite place to be too, I’m thinking of you in this journey. 🤗

I'm moving for a lot of reasons, @Drythe.

I did love my home but now I want a one story home.  That was the initial reason.  Quite a few other reasons followed on that.  I am confident I will find another place that suits me and will love me back.  I have a feeling you know what I mean.

You are so sweet to send me good wishes!

@GingerPeach, I drive by so many two story homes which are beautiful, but at this point in life, I'd only want a ranch style home. Make sure your laundry room is on the main level too.

I had to laugh at your dog pushing thru the dog gate!  I've had dogs like that. My current 4.5 lb dog is stopped by a piece of cardboard from the laminate flooring laid across the doorway. Have several old gates, but my new home has wide doorways, don't know if they'd even fit.

I honestly think a piece of string stretched across the doorway would stop her in her tracks.

Consider this a big dose of cyber support (since I can't be there for actual physical assistance) in your preparations for moving.

It certainly can be both sad and exciting, all at the same time.

I think that for the most part, we are very resilient and can learn to be happy in life's changing circumstances and places, it just takes time and looking at things realistically.

When things become more that we can or want to handle, it makes it easier to let go and move on sometimes, and embark on a new adventure.

I wish you ease of work in the move, and some excitement and anticipation of the new start, while nurturing your possible sadness at the closing of this chapter.

@Mominohio Big hugs (at least the cyber version) for you!

I love that you expressed my feelings with your words so well.  Frankly, as you typically do!  I have no doubt many of us feel the same in similar situations.

One thing that excited me recently is finding an adult community/over 55 specialist realtor in the area I plan to move to.  I left a note on their website and she called me a couple of days ago to say she'd send more info next week.  Why next week, you might wonder.  Well, she bothered to call herself while on vacation in Hawaii, and had a sense of humor clearly evident in her message as well.  I sense this is an excellent omen for moving forward.  (As opposed to someone else in her office taking the question, and/or just emailing me back.)

Although if anyone is interested, I am in the middle of packing books in Banker's boxes.  Come on by!

@GingerPeach I can empathize with a move from a loved home and like @Mominohio so nicely said, there are conflicting emotions that can be honored. I think it’s very common to mourn a loss yet have a sense of excitement for the future. No need to deny either emotion. I think that’s part of our resiliency. Yes, a response from a realtor on vacation bodes well for a good partnership. I hope you find the perfect place to feel cozy.
