In all these beautiful homes that are shared here, few if any show ceiling fans. Home make over shows seldom show fans.

I wonder if a room with high ceiling just look more polished with interesting lights vs functional fans? Our big room has vaulted ceiling with 2 older fans. I'm thinking of replacing the fans with light fixtures. Your thoughts...........about ceiling fans.

Do you need the air circulation that fans provide?

We have them and high ceilings. I want them gone. I never use them.

I've never liked ceiling fans but if I had them, I'd want them to blend in (ie white fan with white ceiling) to be less obvious.

@granddi - We have ceiling fans with lights in all of our bedrooms and our family room. In our bedroom, DH and I run the fan part periodically. It does help all year long. In the family room, where we too have vaulted ceilings,  we run it year round. It cools the room in the summer. In colder weather we reverse the direction of the fan and the heat from our gas stove is circulated.

I've been used to having them and hope I don't have to ever live without them!  Smiley Happy

Our ceiling fans stay on 24x7.  They are only turned off when the housekeeper is here to clean them.

Re: Ceiling fans?

[ Edited ]

I think it depends on the decor.  Looks great with some furnishings ... not so great with others that I've seen in pics.

My aunt had an older Cape Cod cottage style house - and the ceiling fans worked and looked great.  Better than window air conditioners.  And much less expensive then adding central air.

That's the only residence I ever saw (in person) with ceiling fans.

The condo I bought a few years ago has ceiling fans in multiple rooms.  They may not be the prettiest look, or the most modern, but I like them a lot and I am glad to have them.  They save me a ton of money on my electric bill in the summer instead of having to run air conditioners.   That is far more important to me than how nice my home looks.

Once you become accustomed to the movement of air by a ceiling fan, its hard to adjust to living without them.  I can't sleep without a good breeze from an open window or a fan.

When we built out house back in 1988, we had ceiling fans all over the house.  I hated them.  We replaced them with ceiling lights.

Just today, My DH removed the last of the ceiling fans from our master bedroom.  I bought a new ceiling light.  He is painting and we are replacing all the floors on the second floor.

Thankfully, no more dust bunnies up there. I hate to clean those paddle blades.  I do not like air blowing on me...We have central air...no need for ceiling fans.

I do think they really nice outside under a patio roof, but not indoors.
