I LOVE ceiling fans.  Practical and decorative.  I've replaced lighting fixtures with ceiling fans--not the other way around!

I am laughing to myself about ceiling fans being outdated.  When I moved from my Philadelphia row house that had no fans, built around 1947, and I bought my condo a few miles outside of city limits several years ago, with ceiling fans in four rooms, I thought finally I will be living in a modern place.  "movin' on up, I finally got a piece of the pie".😄

In all these beautiful homes that are shared here, few if any show ceiling fans. Home make over shows seldom show fans.

I wonder if a room with high ceiling just look more polished with interesting lights vs functional fans? Our big room has vaulted ceiling with 2 older fans. I'm thinking of replacing the fans with light fixtures. Your thoughts...........about ceiling fans.

I have 5 bedrooms in my house and they each have/had a ceiling fan from the 90's.  As we've remodeled, all have been replaced except 2.  The one in the master we didn't replace, we put a chandelier instead.  the other 3 upstairs all been changed to a white ceiling, more updated.  The remaining bedroom on the main floor will be remodeled soon and I will probably put one in there too.  We also have one in the family room which has high vaulted ceilings.  I live in the Southeast and I like the circulation a fan provides.  Have you've heard of a fandalier?  Hope I'm spelling it right.  It's a chandellier type ceiling fan.  They're pretty cool.

I was being polite in saying they look dated. Which I still think as well. I don't think many posters would want my honest opinion on ceiling fans given the majority of responses that seem to like them. As I also said, to each their own!

I live in an older home, that although remodeled many times over the 100+ years this house has been around, there is only one room w/ a ceiling fan. I like ceiling fans and find them to be practical for moving air around. My spouse does not believe they "fit" the period the house was built -- which I find ridiculous, because neither do all the can lights, the air conditioning, the internet wiring ... etc., etc.

Fans were not a hill to die on w/ regards to decorating the house, so I've just the one fan, which is in my office & I use most everyday. I put it up myself when my husband was out of town, lol. He just raised an eybrow and asked who helped me. I replied, no one helped me, I did it myself. To which he replied, of course you did.

There are fabulous looking fans available and they do not have to look "dated". My two sons each have fans in their homes and I'm just that kind of wife that I will make sure and point at a fan and say how nice it looks and thank them for having the fan on. My husband rolls his eyes every time. So of course, I make sure to say it often. Smiley Happy

I am a big fan of ceiling fans.  In the summer, here in AZ, they are indispensable.

Hi @Kachina624  Thanks for the thought. I've had ceiling fans for many years. Hot air rises, and when we lived in a cold climate by the lake they worked well to push the heat back down to us from our soaring ceilings. But for this hot climate, they don't work for me. I told my builder not to include them in the next house. Just how they are for me; they may be fine for others though.

I love ceiling fans but don't have high ceilings. Can't imagine air conditioning without them.  Especially like it in my kitchen when baking or cooking up a storm.  I truly believe it keeps our electric bill lower.  We use in bedroom 24\7  in warm seasons.

Re: Ceiling fans?

[ Edited ]

We have central A/C and have 2 ceiling fans, one in the kitchen, and one in the sunroom. We do not have huge rooms or high ceilings. Love the kitchen one when I'm baking to help cool me off around the hot oven. Love the one in the sunroom to cool off that room in summer heat. I would love to have one in our bedroom because I think it would help me keep cool & sleep better since I have night sweats. I've been trying to talk my husband into it, but he's afraid it will be too cold for him to sleep.
