Almost all of my house is hardwood floors. I had them put throughout the house before I moved in. I got large plank because I look at many historical houses and they have that and I love the look. I do have area rugs in most rooms in my house with the exception of my kitchen. None of the rugs are the same. I think this gives a very sophisticated look because you get the look of hardwood while still getting the comfort and coziness of carpeting. These are similar to what my floors look like except I have the sides of each plank beveled by hand.
In my basement I do have wall to wall Frise shag carpeting and I love it.

Whoa, not sure why that link is so large, it just shows one picture of the floors very similar to mine. Sorry for the giant link.

We have hardwood through out our house down stairs and we love it. Easy to keep clean. Our bedrooms do have carpet, I prefer something softer in a bed room when I'm not wearing shoes. I do have area rugs down stairs but they still show off the wood floors.

Carpeting costs more to clean.

I think other peoples carpeting could appear to be dirty and yucky, when you are looking for a house to buy, an old carpet is another expense added to your house purchase
Wood is easier to keep clean.

Hardwood is the popular flooring choice today. Many people feel that hardwood is better in terms of durability and cleanliness. Carpet is usually less expensive than hardwood and has a warm and comfortable feel. BUT carpet that is DIRTY, STAINED, WORN, ETC. is not wanted by anyone. Some and certainly not all people DO NOT take care of their carpet and ugly, dirty carpet is a complete turn off in terms of purchasing a house. It is a personal choice decided usually by how much are you willing to pay. Home sellers/flippers may gravitate towards carpet in some markets because carpet is easier on the pocketbook.

My daughter in Florida has mostly tile and wood floors. My daughter in Va has a mixture of both and also scattered Oriental rugs.
I will have to replace my carpet when I get my house ready to sell. I love the look of wood (clean and shiny). However, I have very bad knees, so I'll probably (mostly) never live in a house with wood floors.
I have expensive Berber (sp) carpeting in the rec room (it will stay).

Here in Florida they really discourage the use of hardwood floors due to extreme high humidity warps it and termites. All the wood used in the building of our home was pretreated to be resistant to termites, so i would not put in wood on the floors that would attract them. So if you don't have carpet you have tile and that is difficult for people with some illnesses like neuropathy to walk on. Thus, because my DH has neuropathy we have carpet. However, we have vinyl woodplank floors in our camper and i think I have him warming up to that idea for the house.

I recently sold a home and shampooed the carpets and they looked just fine. No way was I investing the time, hassle and money in hardwood floors just to sell my home.

A problem we had when we sold our house was the carpet was light blue - which matched our decor - but was not a color of choice for others. So that brought down the price of the house about $5000 because people knew they were going to need new flooring . If you go with carpet to sell a house - it has to be a neutral color. Our newer built home has taupe carpet that matches everything - but shows a lot more dirt than our blue carpet did. I find it odd that it does show so much dirt since it essentially is the color of dirt - but it does really show the dirt.
