In Walmart, they still have some of these stylish planters, at great prices.  I'm always on the lookout for modern planters and vessels, since a lot of my furniture is antique or vintage--  I love the contrast of modern and antique together.

This is the Better Homes and Gardens Fischer 8 inch planter.  It's "matte",  be still my heart!  (I prefer matte to glossy).  The fluting is so pretty, and my pot was immaculately finished, with the helpful little silicon plug if you don't want the open hole in the bottom.  It's $7.99.

And here's the coordinating wide 12 inch one.  Sadly, my Walmart was sold out of those:

The other size pot I needed was just 6"--  I took a cutting from my lipstick plant that has rooted in water, and I can't wait to plant it.  So here's the other off-white, matte planter I found, but it is slightly more "rough" textured and has faint neutral stripes in it:

Don't you think the fluted one and the striped one will look good together?   This one was $4.96,  I think.

I didn't want more plants, but my drugstore had meanly thrust two live dusty snake plants (also known as "mother-in-law tongue", awful name!)  on a dark shelf where they looked so forlorn.  Got both, one to give and one to add to my collection, therefore the need for the 8 inch planter....

And now, a fake greenery alert!   When it comes to faux greenery, Walmart surprised me by having two favorites in a decent form--  eucalyptus sprigs, and "string of pearls" succulents.

Softly colored, slightly "frosted" looking fake eucalyptus by Mainstays:

And they have lots of different faux "strings of pearls" succulents:

Depending on where you put them, these two types of faux greenery can look very real, and can look surprisingly high end!   On close inspection of course, you know they are fake, but on a shelf, or a mantel, etc.--  they give you a lot of look for your money, and just sort of "blend" with your real plant collection....

I still prefer "real" of course, but in some circumstances, faux will satisfy me.  I finally decided to try Valerie's faux fiddle leaf fig, since I have a dark, remote corner that desperately needs something, and nothing will grow!   It's on its way now, but would love to hear from anyone who has that-- has it lived up to your expectations?

Re: COOL AFFORDABLE PLANTERS

I do like those planters @Oznell .  To keep the soil from coming out of the bottom of the pot when you water, use mesh tape (drywall joint tape) over the hole.  I do that for all of my small succulents (only plants I have in the house).  I also buy the clear saucers at Lowe's.

Can you easily bend the branches of the eucalyptus springs?  I found some at Michael's that wouldn't bend.  I wanted to be able to arrange the leaves so they wouldn't all be the same.  I would go to Walmart to look at them if you can bend them.

@Oznell ...I just love your enthusiasm and your ability to describe things I didn't even now I'd like. Your time spent on adding pictures etc.is  a bonus.

Thank you!!!

Re: COOL AFFORDABLE PLANTERS

Great tips, @NickNack ,  thanks!   Yes, I'm happy to report (and in fact, meant to mention it but forgot),  that the eucalyptus sprigs I got, the "Mainstays" ones,  are flexible and they do bend!  I was surprised at that, in such inexpensive little sprigs.  Agree, it makes such a difference-- I have mine in my ombre, midcentury vase, and was happily bending the stems, making the eucalyptus look kind of random and 'wispy'.  But I can only vouch for the Mainstays ones, they have others as well that I didn't try.

@LizzieInSRQ,  that's so kind of you, thank you!  I love to hear about other people's finds, and figure a few of my 'goodies' might appeal to others if they knew about them...

@Oznell   Thanks for letting me know about the Mainstays eucalyptus sprigs.  I think I'll go to Walmart this week and look at them.

Re: COOL AFFORDABLE PLANTERS

I like the striped pot very much, good find!  I think you can mix and match planters and shapes and sizes could go together.  I would prefer planters being different rather than the same.

The faux greenery is also appealing and I could find places to put  the ones pictured.  I have all my faux fall flowers and leaves out and I love how it looks.  It brightens up the room and definitely gives a fall feeling. I enjoy arranging the flowers and group many together, the colors of fall!

The only problem I have is that I rarely go to Walmart, it is not a store I enjoy shopping at.  However,I just might make a visit to see what they have.  Thanks, Oznell, for your always welcome finds !!

Re: COOL AFFORDABLE PLANTERS

I checked, and it seems to be sold out online as well, @ECBG .   Probably good for me, since I don't really "need" the bigger one right now, and this will help me restrain myself!

@spiderw,  I'm so sorry you don't have a good Walmart.  Luckily, ours is pretty good.  The one thing right now is it always seems to be thronged with shoppers.  They are certainly doing a bang-up business right now-- a bit surprising, but heartening.

I can well imagine how beautiful your fall arrangements are, with all the lovely things you have!
