Neighborhood Halloween Yard Decorations Contest

This was just put out recently on our neighborhood website.  Any creative ideas anyone?  I am leaning towards a spider theme, even though I have serious arachnophobia!

Have you checked Pinterest?  I saw one idea that had 3 witches holding hands dancing around a cauldron. Sounds like a fun thing for the neighborhood.  Let us know what you end up doing!

Re: Neighborhood Halloween Yard Decorations Contest

I've seen some truly creative as well as some truly over the top Halloween decorations but guess I'm just a grinch. Not going there. Used to be folks decorated their homes for Christmas, some extensively, some with lights a wreath and maybe candles in the windows. Halloween decor consisted of a pumpkin and maybe something hung on the door. You might see a flag on the 4th of July... Sorry, but for me, this whole industry that's sprung up to promote over-decorating yards for virtually every conceivable event isn't one I've chosen to support, but to each their own...

Re: Neighborhood Halloween Yard Decorations Contest

When the kids were little all of the houses in the neighborhood decorated for Halloween.

There was one house in particular who really went all out.  From what I can remember, they had flashing lights in the windows with witches and scary images silhouetted by the light...made the house look haunted and I thought it was clever.  Of course that will only work well in the dark.

I'd keep it light and fun. I think people need a break from the depressing and scary.

A nice porch scene is all I do.  Five foot witch in a rocking chair. Fake cobwebs between porch pillars and some light up spiders. Just one lighted pumpkin and we're good.

Re: Neighborhood Halloween Yard Decorations Contest

I just love Halloween, especilly decorating.  We're cutting back on the decor this year but we usually put out this big witch that is stirring a pot with her broom.  When you walk by she cackles.  Also have tombstone that does various things.  I would put cob webs all over  the front of my house.  Dollar Tree has cob webs, that's where I get mine.  I've also seen large spiders, which I'm tempted to get.  Home Depot has all there Halloween stuff out, I'm sure Target and other stores do too.  Depends on how much you want to spend and how far you want to take it.  If it's a contest, I would go all out.

@FastDogWalker2  You can do a lot with inexpensive lighting. Check your local garden store for strings of Halloween lights, and use some BL indoor outdoor lights that you may already have. Don't spend an arm and a leg.
